Id say the first question would be who uninstalled Norton Antivirus and what method was used if it was uninstalled using Windows uninstaller reminants are probably left . CC Proxy etc Doing a search for Norton using the search bar would reveal any remminants / 2 . Your other issue since you state tou are using Windows 8 is to totally uninstall Windows Defender . Since Windows 8 s inception Windows Defender is now equipped with an antivirus engine along with a malware scanner , in previous operating systems before it was just a malware scanner . so no conflict . And disableing Defender will not stop Trend Micro or any good Heuristic AV scanner from picking up the fact you have more than one running . If you uninstall anything i would reccomend using Advanced Uninstaller Pro (Free) http://www.advanceduninstaller.com/ gets rid of every trace of a program . But look at those 2 options and see if they dont solve your issue And to really make sure no Norton exisists on your machine use the Norton Uninstaller tool to be sure all of its gone .http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/norton-removal-tool/

I hope I'm reaching the right person if so,. I am the Samsung Consultant at best buy you spoke to not to long ago. I seem to have lost your phone number and was unable to call you to talk about what we discussed. Unfortunately I am not able to of any help when fixing your laptop issue. The best suggestion I can give you is go bring it back to your local best buy and have one of our geek squads agents take a look at it.
