In Windows Click Start, then Click Run

Type regedit

Click OK

Click

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Services

Cdrom

Double click "Autorun" the value is set to 1 by default, change it to zero.

Click OK

Now restart, that's it!

yes some cds have spyware and even rootkits.with auto run turned on whatever is in those cd's will execute.

Sony bmg was caught putting rootkits on their cd's for copy write protection.i had tried to play a cd and all of a sudden it wanted to write to my registry.i quickly ejected it and blocked the process.Looked at it and it said sony bmg.

No I can'r recall playing a cd and trying to add to my registry before. So i was suspicious. That is not supposed to happen.Yu can also get spyware terminator. This is what i used at the time. That's the program that told me about what the sony bmg cd was trying to do.

so it basically watches your registry in real time.

delete the auto run files, cd's you can't do, auto run won't give you more protection from trojan's etc you AV and spyware will do that. suggest you look at better security if your getting maleware and viruses. what you using just out of curiosity? If your flash drive is going from PC to PC that is how you getting them, not autorun.
