Computer virus/fake security system HELP!?

I have been getting strange pop ups and messages while on my computer (just on the desktop, not while i am on the internet though it happens there too). I have Bit Defender 2009 security system up and running and i have run a few virus scans, with results saying there have been virus detections, but it cant do anything about it. The major problem is when i turn on/restart my computer, a "fake" security system pops up called Antivirus System PRO. I haven never seen it before, and it is clearly a fake, and poorly put together. Whenever i try to open any programs while that fake system is running, a pop up comes telling me whatever i am trying to open is infected. I can control+alt+delete and end task to get rid of this program, and it wont bother me again... until i restart my computer. I have tried to find the program to delete it, but it doesn't seem to be turning up anywhere. I am on a Dell Dimension 5100 Desktop running Windows Vista. Any help would be appreciated and i will answer any questions you need to know. Thanks!

kill this running processes first shlwapi.dll si

wininet.dll open task manager under applications end anti virus system pro task, then go under running processes and find the processes mentioned above and highlight then kill.after every kill you'll be prompted to confirm, click ok and close process explorer.don't restart just run malwarebytes and it will work.don't delete complete the virus just let it delivered in quarantine otherwise you'll loose your login screen.after quarantine restart your computer and you'll be fine.keep the virus in quarantine a few days create new restore point then delete all previous restore points except the newerly one then you'll be ok.after few days you'll be able to remove it from quarantine.good luck!

I would buy Kaspersky. It can run it in a virtual environment that will remove only the virus and not the code for windows. Its a new thing they came out with. its not free but thats becuase it works and has the support behind it. You could also get remote support assistance to remove the threats.

I found it the cheapest at the site below.

Malwarebytes is blocked by antivirus system pro. You need to disable its processes first, and later use malwarebytes or other spyware remover.

To disable antivirus system pro, launch task manager, and stop not only its processes, but all processes that you can not recognise and find no reference in google. Make sure to check if these processes should be run under system user or your user, if it does not match, stop them again.

You can also try Spyware Doctor from http://pack.google.com

Try booting up in "safe mode with networking" Constantly hit F8 while booting up and then re-install and run Malwarebytes. Changing users helps, too. That's what my computer guru ended up doing, he fixed the problem by opening my son's uninfected user account. If there is more than one user account on the computer open a different account with administrator privileges, and open malware byes in that account. If it doesn't open, then once again try to re-install it and then run it. You might need to remove some of the nastiness manually. Be sure to delete "iehelper.dll" this file is the root of the problem. This site has a list of files that need to be removed: http://www.spywarevoid.com/remove-antivirus-system-pro-antivirus-system-pro-removal.html

More on removing it manually. http://www.411-spyware.com/remove-antivirus-system-pro

This site has a removal tool: http://remove-malware.net/how-to-remove-antivirus-system-pro-rogue-anti-spyware/

And still more: http://remove-malware.net/how-to-remove-antivirus-system-pro-rogue-anti-spyware/

One last one with a removal tool on the page: http://www.pcthreat.com/parasitebyid-8011en.html#

By typing in "how to uninstall antivirus system pro" you will get lots more information. This one is very nasty and difficult to get rid of. My son got this while browsing with firefox and his wife got in while using a mac, so the standard "Switch to mac or firefox" doesn't apply.

You can run antivirus and antispyware programs, but the sad fact is if you have found one virus on your computer, you probably have several. Cleaning the computer now requires you to follow these steps, because modern viruses and spyware entrench themselves in files that your computer needs in order to run:

1. Virus-check your data files (not application files-- you have installer CDs for those).

2. Back up the data files, getting them off your hard drive.

3. Get your original operating system CDs that came with your computer.

4. Boot your computer from the operating system CD.

5. Select the option that erases your hard drive and then reinstall your system software.

6. Turn on your software firewall that came with your operating system.

7. Reconnect to the internet, and download *all* Windows updates, no matter how long it takes.

8. Reinstall your application software, and update the applications as much as you can.

9. Reinstall your data files.

10. Create a limited user account on your system that does *not* have administrator access, and web surf only from this account.

Yes, this is a pain in the butt. No, there is no other way. No, antivirus and antispyware programs cannot fix this problem on its own.

So, what do you do in the future?

1. Never click on links you find in an e-mail.

2. Never open an e-mail attachment, ever.

3. Only download files from a reputable website that you know is on the up-and-up.

4. Never use bit-torrent and other file-sharing programs.

5. Never use an unsolicited drive-checking site.

6. Turn off all java and java scripting by default, and only enable java and java scripting for sites that you know you can trust.

7. Never read an unsolicited e-mail, and delete spam immediately. It is possible to be hacked by reading an e-mail alone.

Please adhere to the 'dont's' I provided above, because you will have to repeat the cleaning steps that I listed first *every time you get infected.* Anti-spyware and anti-virus programs are good to have, but they are a second line of defense. The best way to protect your system is you, and changing your behavior.

Good luck!
