Question:
QV06 Virus attack - Please help?

QV06 virus has hijacked my system. I am using a full version Quickheal Total Security 2013 (updated virus signature); however, in spite of that, I do not know how, this malicious virus has crept into my system and is redirecting me to this strange page each time I try to open my homepage (Google). I mainly use chrome as my browser, which is also my default browser. But the virus has equally infected my Firefox, Internet Explorer and Opera. There is apparently no way I can find to get rid of this irritating virus, and furthermore I am worried that it is stealing data from my hard disk.

I have tried all the routine methods of removing the virus by resetting the Chrome preferences of the homepage, etc, etc, but to no use. I have also tried a boot-time scan of my system through Quickheal, which has also failed to solve the problem.

I am using an XP SP2 32 bit OS with 4 GB RAM and 500 GB Hard drive space with a Broadband internet connection.

What else is there that I may do to put things right? And what needs to be done to prevent it from re-entering into my system? I need immediate help, please.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

" I am using an XP SP2 32 bit OS"

And your not getting any windows updates either. ALL of XP as of this previous April was required to update to the SP3 or face not being able to update.

Just released from Microsoft a warning concerning IE 8 & 9 being exploited. YOu will not be able to get that update. Regardless of what browser you use, they all use IE Settings. All operating systems do, Windows, Mac's & Linux use iexplorer.exe to update

QV06 is NOT malicious nor a virus. It's a simple browser hijacker/adware. And of course there's no listing in Add n Remove, Everything is contained in the browser and registry keys created when installed.

MOst of these are User installed as a lot of Free software come bundled with them and users rush through the install INSTEAD of doing a "Custom" install and can see & reject the extra's offered

NOTE: Don't feel bad about Quickheal, most antivirus software do not detect PUP"s. Some have the ability, but must be turned on.

You can run antivirus and antispyware programs, but the sad fact is if you have found one virus on your computer, you probably have several. Cleaning the computer now requires you to follow these steps, because modern viruses and spyware entrench themselves in files that your computer needs in order to run: 1. Virus-check your data files (not application files-- you have installer CDs for those). 2. Back up the data files, getting them off your hard drive. 3. Get your original operating system CDs that came with your computer. 4. Boot your computer from the operating system CD. 5. Select the option that erases your hard drive and then reinstall your system software. 6. Turn on your software firewall that came with your operating system. 7. Reconnect to the internet, and download *all* Windows updates, no matter how long it takes. 8. Reinstall your application software, and update the applications as much as you can. 9. Reinstall your data files. 10. Create a limited user account on your system that does *not* have administrator access, and web surf only from this account. Yes, this is a pain in the butt. No, there is no other way. No, antivirus and antispyware programs cannot fix this problem on its own. So, what do you do in the future? 1. Never click on links you find in an e-mail. 2. Never open an e-mail attachment, ever. 3. Only download files from a reputable website that you know is on the up-and-up. 4. Never use bit-torrent and other file-sharing programs. 5. Never use an unsolicited drive-checking site. 6. Turn off all java and java scripting by default, and only enable java and java scripting for sites that you know you can trust. 7. Never read an unsolicited e-mail, and delete spam immediately. It is possible to be hacked by reading an e-mail alone. Please adhere to the 'dont's' I provided above, because you will have to repeat the cleaning steps that I listed first *every time you get infected.* Anti-spyware and anti-virus programs are good to have, but they are a second line of defense. The best way to protect your system is you, and changing your behavior. Good luck!

You have a browser hijack virus, very annoying and can be hard to get rid of.

Run malwarebytes and see what it finds. Also check out the removal guide below, this is pretty much guaranteed to get rid of it.
