It's a virus that has locked my safari, but has uneffected my firefox which is what I am currently using. It claims to have locked my browser due to illegal activity and claims it requires a payment of 100 dollars to unlock. Obviously a scam, though I can't close safari, go to a different page on safari, or anything like that. Also, it won't let my computer restart because my mac tries to close safari before restarting and it won't let it. I googled it and found that it is a known scam and I seen how to remove it on winows, but I don't know about for a macbook pro. If anyone knows how to do this that would save a trip to the computer store.

Macs - keep crashing. Damned expensive for what you get. Hard to get any decent software at cheap prices. Only 3% of the worlds computers are Macs. Doesn't that tell you something. They've nearly gone bust twice. Saved by Microsoft so that Microsoft has a competitor to keep it clear of anti trust laws. They have been kept afloat by the ipod. Without that and Microsoft there would bo no Macs. You pay high prices for their lack of volume and market share.

Like it has been suggested, force quit Safari. Then restart your Mac, then launch Safari and delete the history and cache, turn on the popup ad blocker & you will be fine. No "virus" has infected your Mac. There hasn't been a trued Mac virus since 2004.

Try reinstalling Safari, use Mac's equivalent of command prompt to forcefully terminate Safari to uninstall it.
