We have a domain in which our users log into. Users also can log into the local machine instead of the domain. My question is if a user logs into the local machine, and not the domain, does the domains security settings influence the local machines security settings, or are then independent from each other?

Yes. The computer itself should have a domain entry/account.

Hello,

In order for user to login with a domain account, the machine itself has to be joined into the domain.

When computer joins a domain, all security settings are applied at the domain level if there are any specified by the domain administrator.

When local user opens local session on PC that is joined into a domain, the security settings for the machine are applied anyway, but the user security settings are not. So basically, a local user will not be able to access to domain resources, unless security permits it.

So yes, every local session is independent from user point of view...

Generally the admins do set local restrictions which can only be altered from the domain admin accounts.
