i have got a virus on my computer i cannot get rid of it i have avg and the virus wont let me use avg to do a?

scan and i cant delete the software that the virus was in even though it was from download.com

1) Try stopping the process first, by running task manager [Ctrl + shift + esc] go to processes and see if you can find the virus process, you can probly stop the process then run AVG.



2) If it wont let you stop the process, restart your system and start in SafeMode [ shut down your computer by pushin the button or turning of the mains whislt it on] then start it up and it will say Run windows in safe mode, run windows normally and so on. choose safemode, then try stopping the process it should work this time, then run AVG.

I assume you are using a MS Windows version of OS.

probably AVG cannot delete the virus because it is still running as an active process.

So either you can identify which process belongs to the virus and end it in the Windows Task Manager list of active processes (open it using [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Delete]), or you restart your computer and ensure AVG will scan your computer at startup which should get rid of this virus.



Unfortunately you don't mention which virus it is (it generic name or ID), so it is difficult to give the best solution to remove it. Keep it mind that a "correct" virus will kill any known antivirus processes do avoid its detection.

Then remove the virus!

do you know how to edit the registry remove all key with the virus.
