Question:
Peer Guardian 2 and Bluetack lists down?
2010-02-03 17:13:42 UTC
The Peer Guardian 2 and Bluetack Lists are both down. PG2 wouldn't update since last year, but Bluetack stopped working this month. This is all legal by the way, as it's technically just software to block others from connecting with you.

But does anyone know why these lists are not updating, and if there are any fixes to this problem?

I had the same problem, until I discovered that Peer Guardian 2 is no longer being developed, which I assume is why their lists no longer update. Luckily, another group of developers have taken the source code and created a newer, updated version of Peer Guardian called Peer Block, although they look and work exactly the same.

You can get it/learn more about it here:

Bluetack - they're either upgrading or migrating their servers, I forget. I'm not sure how long they're going to be down, but I remember reading something recently that said it might take about two weeks. I believe this was on THEIR site, but I'm not positive (two weeks seems excessive, but who knows). As far as I can tell, their lists are being updated and they're still available. I'm getting them from i-blocklist, which you can find at http://iblocklist.com (BT's level 1 and level 2 are updating fine for me from there, and have been since BT went down).

I'm still using PG2 under XP, and have no probs updating my lists, and I'm pretty sure some of my lists are the PG2 defaults. I'd suggest you uninstall and re-install, and see if that helps, or better yet, replace it with PeerBlock, as mentioned above. PB's a fork of PG, and actively developed, while PG's stagnated for a while.
