Question:
Is downloading WinRAR going to hurt my computer?
2010-02-27 16:14:40 UTC
I have a MacBook Pro. I really want to download WinRAR because I have Sims and want to download Custom Content. But I'm worried it's going to give my laptop a virus or make it crash. My friend has it, and it's fine, but I'm still worried. Please answer I really want to know.

No, it's a fully legit and safe program. It is file decompression/compression tool. It has been around for years and it has been highly rated by experts. I use it myself.

The thing you have to worry about is the custom content itself. Some Sims custom content have viruses in them. Read the comments (if there are any) to use what users say about the file as well as the ratings (if there are any).

WinRAR is a VERY popular and VERY reputable compression/decompression software that's been around for ages. There is no problem downloading it and using it regularly. Again, it is very reputable so there is going to be no viruses associated with it.

Don't worry!

please take note that winRAR is not from winrar.com website.

it should be from

http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

also, WinRAR is not free.

If it is run in MAC OS X, then it is just command line only and not GUI (Graphics User Interface)

None at all, its just a file extraction program. You can use it all you like, just press cancel when it asks you to buy it.
