I do wish people would learn how to get rid of viruses and adware instead of saying, "download this antivirus program and that bla bla bla", almost any antivirus program will get rid of it if you know what you are doing... my friend just follow the instructions below and "puff" they are gone like magic :O)

First, go to run/type msconfig/ then startup/ then uncheck anything that looks strange "if you are not sure what you are unchecking the google it just to be sure as some of them are necessary for xp to work.

Then after this you will need to do a restart, after restart a box will pop up make sure you check the little box in the right hand bottom corner as this will stop it keep on asking for a reboot.

This will hopefully stop it reloading all the time.

Then turn off system restore by going to start/right click on my computer/properties/system restore and turn off system restore.

Then do a restart as you are going to do a scan in safe mode, you can do this by rebooting and before the boot screen comes up keep pressing F8 repeatedly until you get a black screen with instructions on.

Choose safe mode and the computer will start to load in safe mode. When the process has happened which is about 30secs your desktop will look larger than normal, just open your antivirus program do a scan and see if that sorts it out.

Reboot and don't forget to turn on system restore again.

The same procedure should be performed for spyware as well.

This should sort it out.

P.S. I should print this out if I were you just to be sure you do not get lost :O)

And you can check with other posters of these addresses to see if it works :O)

Sounds like you have a Vundo (Virtumonde) infection.

WinFixer is a rogue anti-spyware program which is mostly ineffective at detecting and removing malware, which is usually marketed like something this:

"Many may have been surfing the net, going through mail, or just working on the internet when a popup like the ones below appear out of nowhere. Adware such as ErrorSafe and WinAntiVirus try to disguise themselves as a windows security prompt to trick people into downloading their software. ErrorSafe, WinFixer , WinAntiSpyware, System Doctor 2006, WinAntiVirus Pro 2006, SysProtect, and similar software are ROGUE anti-spyware programs. They pretends to be a program that will help you fix windows problems, but really it reports false information to try to get you to purchase the program. It is a SCAM."

The trojan that usually causes or caused these phony Windows Security alerts is usually a Vundo (AKA Virtumonde) trojan A good tool for removing it is VundoFix. Free at:

Most general-purpose all-in-one antimalware solutions such as AVG, Norton, Spybot and AdAware are innefective in removing a Vundo infection.

Good luck.

Use a good anti-spyware program to clean it out. I would suggest SuperAntiSpyware, which is normally pretty successful and has a free version.

Download an Anti-Malware program here:

...and run a scan. It should find winifixer and you should be able to delete it.
