Intelligence and common sense will take care of 99.9% of the problems. A sensible backup plan will take care of the other 0.1% -- you don't need antivirus software. I've been on the internet since the 90s and haven't needed any antivirus software.

If you are using window then Kespersky and Nortan or if you are using linux OS then ClamAV, DansGuardian is best for Linux.
Use Linux OS to protect your system. Linux is more secure then Window OS. You can use CentOS, Ubantu or ClearOS linux based OS for your system.
