5 stars to the person who added common sense.

First off, watch what keywords you use. You already used two keywords that trigger an investigation from Homeland Security. Certain keywords in email or ANY ONLINE POSTING automatically triggers these bots and an investigation from homeland security. So do not use words such as "authorities, law enforcement, drill, domestic security, cops, dirty bomb, hostage, explosion, security, breach, detection, nuclear, toxic, outbreak, contamination, sarin, anthrax, chemical burn, small pox, plague, virus, exposure or several other words like that. The more hits there are the higher the priority.

So if any of those words show up online, you trigger a thorough probing and investigation.

A hacker should already know the answer to this question. But you need at MINIMUM an anonymous proxy that does not keep records of IP addresses. You would also need some other specialized software custom written for your needs, but since you are a hacker you already know how to write and compile this code. You need a good router and software to reject pings and other attempts to track you, but you already know this.

Any smart hacker would not brag on a public website that they are violating federal laws making them a target. Especially considering all activity online contains IP, ISP, browser and OS information. But any bright hacker would be using a secured anonymous proxy that does not use IP logging along with other masking software to to keep themselves a ghost and difficult to be tracked. After all, homeland security has bots tracking any possible hacking activity and that is triggered by keywords and automatically begins tracing their IP address, ISP and account suspected illegal activity comes from.

Nice for you choosing to become "a hacker".

You do not really need Antivirus. It comes in handy running in a VM where you test your downloads, but it's just some snake oil to make you feel better and keep away some dumb malware.

What you will need is a network running network analysis tools as tcpdump/tshark, snort, argus, an internet simulator (fake gateway with fake services like dns, http, smb...) and maybe a honeypot like dionaea. And if you are particulary interested in dissecting malware you will like a sandbox like cuckoo and some good debuggers. Ok, not some, just IDA, gdb and Immunity.

You will not want to keep threats away, at least in the initial learning phase.

There is no way to keep ALL the threats away, but you can switch to a more secure operating system, such as Ubuntu (only 7 known viruses, and they are in labs), here is a tutorial I made: http://bit.ly/Z0rxNr

Here are some ways that you can secure Windows

Install comodo firewall

Change dns servers to OpenDNS

Run web browser in a virtual machine

Use Firefox with security addons

Now I would also like to give you some helpful advice. In the hacker community there is a general concensus that Microsoft Windows is too restrictive to be used for hacking generally people tend to use Unix/Unix-like operating systems when they are hacking. I would say most people I have talked to run Linux when they are hacking (I personally prefer Debian GNU/Linux) but I have also heard of people using BSD (I prefer OpenBSD over Linux but I run Linux on my laptop because of hardware support and because Spotify and VMWare workstation 9 don't have OpenBSD versions) and I also have even heard of people running Solaris (I've tried it its not bad but I prefer BSD). Unix and Unix-like operating systems have a significant advantage over Windows when it comes to performance and Security (and not to mention they are free). I also recommend using Firefox as your main web browser as it is the best for web hacking in my opinion and it also seems like almost everyone in the hacker community uses FireFox as their main web browser.

I do not hack anything illegally I actually work on the defense side of things (in my opinion defense is harder than offense) but I do enjoy playing hacking wargames on HackThisSite and SmashTheStack everyone once in awhile to get in the mindset of the attacker. They can be quite fun but sometimes you can get stuck for hours and want to beat your head against a wall haha :/ wish I had more time to play them I highly recommend you have a look at both hackthissite and smashthestack

A real hacker does not have anything like that at all

THe only way to be virus free is never to put anything connected to anything else in your computer , but use someone elses.
