Comodo Pro is free and very strong get it from http://www.download.com

For the best protection combine it with a hardware firewall most routers have one built in.

Most routers (to give you multiple IP addresses) have a basic firewall that you can use NAT to pop IP's through......but in order to REALLY protect yourself...you need to buy a REAL firewall. A hardware firewall. Some users buy software-driven firewalls (http://www.all-internet-security.com/top_10_firewall_software.html) - but the best firewall is most likely a Sonicwall Firewall. This is what the pros use...and it's what my company uses. They aren't cheap...but worth the money in regards to knowing you're safe. http://www.firewalls.com/productcart/pc/sonicwall-firewalls.asp

Get a hardware-based SPI firewall (takes up no memory on your computer). Most routers have them (if you don't have a router, get one, even if only one computer is connected to the internet).

There isn't much of a chance of someone actually hacking into your computer like that.

UPDATE:

In simpler English terms - get a router if you don't have one. Enable Windows Firewall. Keep your computer up to date with Windows Update. Use antivirus software. And use common sense when visiting websites.
