A small command prompt type window, which I closed, opened on my computer a few days ago.
At some point during a different session, I began recieving continuous memory errors of some type.
After I restarted my computer, I got a BSOD (blue screen of death) during the "scrolling bar" loading window. I can now only start my computer in safe mode without recieving a BSOD. I have found that System Restore has been disbled by "group policy." I need to contact a "domain administrator." My homepage somehow became one of those fake newspaper ads. What can I do short of formating my HD?

Here's a neat trick I use when I'm repairing computers:

1) Turn off your computer.

2) Turn it back on.

3) As it's starting up, tap F8 repeatedly. This should bring you to the boot menu.

4) Choose "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" This should flash some code on-screen and bring you to a black screen with just text input.

5) Enter "rstrui.exe" (without quotes). This should by-pass the "group policy" and pop open System Restore, where you'll be able to bring your system back to before this happened.

6) Go to the internet and get a free anti-virus program. I use Microsoft's free Security Essentials.

Alternatively, you could try doing step 6 first. Good luck!

Do a thorough malware/adware/virus scan in safemode. That usually does the trick.
