The friday ad site keeps flashing up meld.js for me to install, but I have no idea what it is or whether its harmful. My question is what is it and how can I avoid installing it without being constantly prompted to.

Its already on your pc and you need to remove it.

Download and install Spybot Search and Destroy and Spyware Terminator. Then run them in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode restart your pc and before Windows loadsrepeatedly hit the F8 button. When you're in Safe Mode the pc will run slow and the screen will be at 800 x 600 pixels.

When you have finished restart normally and install Spywareblaster. Open it and select Enable all protection. It will help prevent browser hijacks.

The file extension (.js) means it's a JavaScript file, which could potentially do a lot of harm. If you have Google Chrome, Firefox or Safari, install AdBlock, and get a popup blocker too.
