home.htm~ is a backup file for home.htm. If you delete home.htm, home.htm~ will still be there.

I doubt you have any viruses, unless you ran suspect scripts as root (copying files without running them shouldn't hurt your computer).

I have used linux Redhat for about 6 years now. When ever you change a program, it backs up the orriginal. To make the back up go away, you must save your file that you have just changed. As soon as you make another change, a back up is made.

Why does your computer do this?

It is possible to completely mess up your computer if you are messing with .conf files.

If you are new to linux, I STRONGLY advise you to download LearnKey Linux which can be found on www.thepiratebay.org (you must know how to use a torrent program like azureus or something) LearnKey is a video tutorial. (Use Mplayer for Linux) It is a bit out dated, but it is done using Redhat. I think you will feel more comfortable using Linux after watching it.

Odds are nevertheless that in case you torrent some thing (that's illegitimate via the way, we ought to assert that) you should be particularly risk-free because of the fact the possibilities are something you get would be concentrated at domicile windows besides.

To my knowledge there is no linux av program - just av programs that run under linux to stop forwarding windoze virus loads in your e-mail / attachements.

I have had a couple of flash drives that got windoze viruses, and in one case I could not delete it - not with windoze, not with linux. But it did not affect my linux machine.

from what i read about linux, (getting it for myself) linux cannot be harmed by spyware viruses and very few hackers can get to it. i knew about the spyware part, but the viruses came as asurprise to me. i don't think there is an antivirus for linux. go to kubuntu.com.

all linux is generally the same to my knowledge (in type of OS) but each one is different in setup.
