How do I scan an email attachment for virus before I open it even though it appears to be from someone I know?

In my incredimail account I could save the message and scan it with my antivirus from the my documents but this email attachment wont save. Even though I know the person, I am afraid to open it because my computer contacted a virus a few years ago. I don't want that to happen again.

right-click it instead of trying to open it, there you can choose to scan it.

I am using incredimail with some of my email addresses (not yahoo email address) and I could always save the attachment found on my emails using incredimail. If this is the problem, all you have to do is open the mail, and on the right hand corner of the window is an attachment icon, right click on this attachment icon and from the shortcut menu click save. As soon as you have saved the attachment, check it against your anti-virus program. If you don't have one I would suggest you use the AVG free scanner. It checks your emails against viruses including attachments on incredimail.



If you don't use your incredimail now, and you are using yahoo email, then there is no problem because yahoo email attachments are always being scanned by yahoo site before you download it. They are using Norton Anti-virus.

if its at yahoo mail, dont worry , but after downloading the file , click with the right button of mouse , the name of ur antivirus appear , just one click and it will scan it

your email account should automatically have an antivirus program on it. check with your isp....

don't open any email. if your friends want to taik to you ,use instant messages in yahoo messenger or msn messenger .
