I just bought an Acer Aspire 5585 laptop and there is a pre-installed norton internet security in it. I was thinking can the norton internet security be compared with the Norton Antivirus program? do they have the same function and level of security? should i uninstall norton internet security and replace it with a latest Norton Anti-virus? or i can install the anti-virus even with Norton Internet Security installed? i really want my laptop to be protected from all form of virus, adware, etc. i am currently using windows vista....any suggestions ?!

Norton AntiVirus is a component of NIS. It has a worm blocking feature, kind of like a small firewall.

Norton Internet Security includes Norton AntiVirus. NIS includes outbreak alerts, the worm blocking feature is replaced by NPF which has an integrated Intrusion Protection feature. NIS, though works with signatures, also works with heuristics.

The 2007 version of NIS includes improved rootkit detection, improved virus protection, improved anti-spyware protection, advanced firewall support, intrusion protection, simpler design, optional parental controls, and is designed to not hog your system resources as much as previous Norton products.

If you are going to update to a Symantec product, i recommend Norton 360. Contrary to most people's beliefs, Norton 360 gives you better protection than McAfee, AVG, Avast and other applications. It has been ranked as one of the highest security applications and has recently won the CNETs Editors Choice Award. Norton 360 gives you:

-improved antivirus

-improved rootkit detection

-improved anti-spyware

-improved advanced firewall with intrusion protection

-online transaction security

-initial 2 GB of online storage

-automatic backup and restore

-pc tuneups

-website authentication

-anti phishing

-IM security

-email security

-optional free antispam

-optional free parental controls

If you want your laptop to be secure, the first thing you do is spend as long as it takes purging your laptop of all things Norton related. When that is done go get Avast Anti-virus Home at http://www.avast.com or AVG anti-virus and Ad-Aware Home http://www.lavasoft.com

With these your computer will be far more secure and run faster as well due to their taking far less system resources than Norton.

Yes well done going with Norton is a brillant choice. It rules! I use it and I love it. Also Internet security has Anti virus in it so you don't need to worry.

norton is useless because it is a resource hog. remove all traces of norton. download avg antivirus free. it is an anti malware. if you dont belive me read its user manual. also download windows defender and ad aware se PE. all are free.
