I know this is possible I've seen it done before... But this is my first time setting up FTP on any OS. Normally I used just SFTP on Linux and I didn't bother with trying to figure out how to keep a user in their home directory. But I heard and I've seen it that it is possible to keep a user from leaving their home directory? How is this done?

Are you using IiS and the standard Windows FTP software? I'm not real sure (more of a linux guy myself), but I think you might have to go third party to get that kind of security. Not sure.

However, try going to control panel -> administrative tools -> internet information services, then Local computer -> FTP Sites -> default FTP Site. Then, you should see a box pop up with a tab 'Directory Security'. Look around there. If you can, thats probably where it is.

Looks like some good info here:

Hello,

If you use Filezilla FTP server, you can assigne the user a home directory, which is where they will be limited to.

the reason why you can't on Linux is because of the nature of the Linux filesystem itself. the user FTPing on the computer doesn't have access by default to the other parts of the computer.

this is much more difficult on Windows. you have to use a client to set up your computer to be an FTP server, set up a username-password that ONLY has read access to whatever folders/files you want. you have to create a new user.
