Your first answer is right about no anti-virus software giving you 100%. You really do need to use common sense. When browsing get WOT (web of trust) for your browser. That will go a long way to keeping off bad web sites. There really is no best anti-virus program. Here's a list of very good paid programs. Norton Internet Security, Kaspersky Internet Security, AVG Internet Security, Eset Smart Security, Avira AntiVir Premium. All of these offer very good protection.

The list for good free ones is shorter. Avira free, and Avast. Are both good but not very good protection. You will need to add a little more security if you go with a free program. But with the addition of a few free programs you can get very good protection.

there is no 100% secure antivirus.All antivirus will fail in one instance or the other but we can choose the best from that list.

Most of the good working require to buy liscence which is costly and if you r cracking the liscence then it would be difficult to update them.So among those liscenced versions i would prefer norton internet security and mccafe antivirus.

and if you cant afford them then among free ones i would prefer avira its free,dependable.

Another problem with the antivirus is that its virus guard\on-acess scanner will take a lot of ram and reduce system performance if your ram is below 512KB
