I suspect that my comp is infected with trojan/virus. But 3mins is not enough to do a scan. I tried to disable all my startup programs but the comp still auto restarts.

The thing that first comes to mind is if you have Microsoft XP. If you are running XP have you ever installed service pack 2? If not that could be the problem. SP2 fixed a virus that caused this problem in some PCs. They used to have it on disk at certain retail stores, but I don't know if they still do. If this is the case try downloading it from a friend's PC and burning it to disk.

If you think this is a result of a virus, then this is most probably a result of a virus/hacker. It's pretty basic for a hacker to infiltrate your computer and change the settings or set up an invisible trojan to auto restart at a specified time. All you can do is unplug your computer, retrieve your hard drive and replace it.

Have you tried starting in Safe Mode?

To go to safe mode press F8 while the computer is starting. A black screen will appear and a Safe Mode option will be shown. During Safe Mode you scan all you want unless the problem still persists.

If it's still restarting maybe the problem is in the hardware...Just post a reply if it still restarts.

Do the scan from other PC by setting your HD as a slave.

The virus might infect the services in your computer (e.g. msconfig, etc) which active every few min.

Try to repair the windows if you have the windows installation cd

Probably dust builing up on the heat sink, not allowing the fan to properly move air which is how the processor is cooled...

Restarts are a typical symptom of overheating....solution, buy a can of compressed gas "air" from your local computer shop and clean off the processor heat sink....

ur pc is affected by one or more virus or spyware. well i suggest u clean the whole pc using an anti-virus (use avg, its better in detecting unwanted stuff) and for spywares use spyware doctor (this is the best coz this has a very efficient scanning engine and rootkit (a kind of spyware which most other spy-scanners dont detect) detection and cleaning. hope this helps u.

have you tried starting in safe mode?

restart and press f8 while it loads until you get to a screen that allows you to run in safe mode.. then when you are in safe mode run your anti-virus.. usually works

good luck

Download the stinger cleaning software and try that.

Could also be RAM or a heat problem

You definitely have a virus problem there! either Brontok or redlof. I would suggest you get a proper antivirus, or you can download theAVG free version and run it..
