i don't know for safety but one great thing about chrome is that i've done is put Wot in it (the little green dot in front of safe site) and it works very well. I've benchmarked firefox 3.5 and Chrome with peacekeeper and Chrome was twice as fast in the results. Chrome sounds a very good choice for me. I didnt try it in mint but tomorrow i'm gonna test this out.

ps: chrome in ubuntu is almost as fast as safari in vista (safari is the fastest browser in windows)

The Chrome Web Browser is still Beta. Ubuntu is working with Google to perfect this new browser and it probably won't be long before it becomes a great Web Browser. It works the same in Windows and Linux. You won't really notice any difference. Safe, it's about as safe as any Beta version can be for the time.

I've been using it on Windows 7 for months (I got Windows 7 beta because Vista kept crashing, now I have the final release version). I haven't had any problems. In fact, Chrome has a good filter for malicious websites and will warn you before you open a site that might contain a Trojan or a virus. There have been several times when I've accidentally come across such sites and Chrome has managed to block them very well.

I don't know about Ubuntu, but Google's general business model is to release nothing until it works the same on every system, so it would surprise me if it's not essentially the same on Ubuntu.

Every Google product is Beta all the time, because they keep upgrading them constantly.

I have Google Chrome on Ubuntu 9.10 and it works very well. It's fast and used with a firewall it seems to be as secure as Firefox. There is many extensions available for Chrome, I installed the same AdBlock extension that I have in Firefox.
