Firstly update and run your anti-virus product. You can also run a free online scan as well as some malware can actually corrupt or disable your resident security products. Here are a few online scans you can run:

Trend - http://housecall.trendmicro.com/...

Panda - http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/ac...

Norton - http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/defau...

Second download, update and run scans using the following products:

SuperAntispyware

http://superantispyware.com/

Spybot S&D (free version requires manual updating)

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl...

AVG AntiSpyware

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tp...

Adaware from Lavasoft (free version requires automatic updating)

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-a...

(These programs can be run in Safe Mode after downloading and updating)

Third, after cleaning your system, disable System Restore, reboot and re-enable System Restore when you log back on. This will clear the malware that may still be lurking in System Restore, which could be reinstalled should you need to rollback at some point. Additionally, a reboot may be required to complete the malware removal process.

Lastly, you may also want to install the following tool. It is free and requires you to check for and enable updates manually once a week or so. It uses no system resources.

SpywareBlaster (inoculates, not a spyware removal tool)

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareb...

==============================...

If you cannot get it removed after the above, you may want to join a tech group that specializes in providing manual instructions on malware eradication.

First, you MUST have an up-t-date and properly configured Anti-Virus program from a reliable vendor (plus Firewall and anti-spyware).

It's really important when you get a message like that to write down EXACTLY what the message says.. because it will also tell you where the file is located on your harddrive as well as the kind of virus, trojan, etc.. that it is.

Your anti-virus will attempt to do a few things..

it will try to clean the infected file (meaning it attempts to strip out the bad code within the good code and hopefully leave you with a working file/program),

it will also attempt to quarantine the file if it cannot clean it (meaning it attempts to move it to a safe location created by the anti-virus program where it can do no more harm),

if all that fails the anti-virus program will try to delete the file.

If it cannot do any of those things you are left having to manually fix the problem or locate a RELIABLE technician in your area who can.

If the problem cannot be manually corrected then you may be left having to reformat your harddrive and reinstall everything from scratch.

MY ADVICE would be to first and foremost copy any documents, pictures, etc you cannot live without onto a floppy or cdrom (not programs).... do this before you reboot your computer because if you are infected with something nasty ou could lose it all.

Then, make sure your Norton is up-to-date. If it told you you have a trojan then it is at least up to date enough to catch it... so I doubt that's your problem. but you can check the date it last updated by going into the properties of the program.

If it's not up to date get a fresh installation. Downloading one from the internet or updating your anti-virus after the fact MAY NOT WORK because a smart virus will not allow you to properly install Anti-Virus and will in some cases disable your working one.!! And if it is this kind then you will only be able to use A/V AFTER you have manually cleaned this bug anyways.

If you got tis message while browsing the web look in your local settings/temporary files/ folder for the bug and delete it in safe mode.

See, first of all... If you are on a Home PC istall only Avast or Kaspersky Antivirus. U can download them using torrent or so. And get the crack. But what ever you are using even if its Norton, the point is how ofetn you Update the Antivirus. So if you hate downloading a new antivisur, download the latest updates for Norton and then run a full system scan. You should have run a full system scan atleast once.

Please download Kaspersky 7 and update and run a full system scan, This is the best you can get. Norton and AVG are for Networking environment. Eventhough they perfom well on Home PC, single client, or stand-alone client, their perfomance index is greatly affected.

Better install a KAspersky and keep yourself protected.e

Usually the antivirus software will give you the location of the infected file, and sometimes you can delete it manually, if it isn't anything terribly important to the functioning of your computer. You might want to see if you can update Norton and run it again, and hopefully it will be able to remove the virus. There are also plenty of websites that can walk you through taking care of such a problem as this.

However, when my computer was infected by two worms (viruses) at once, I opened Microsoft Paint and illustrated them, because it was better than panicking.

Hi Alicia

First... if you still have opportunity to make back up, do it now

next step is you better change your norton with another antivirus.

I am not promote the AVG antivirus, but after I use it, it is very good... and also free

Download at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0

there are 3 free program to clean and protect your computer

1. AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5

2. Free versionAVG Anti-Spyware Free Edition 7.5

3. Free versionAVG Anti-Rootkit Free

after you download the program, don't forget to update the virus database first before scanning.......

Specially for anti-spyware, it is very help full one, sometimes antivirus doesn't find this spyware, but this program can!

I hope this will solve your problem

The last thing if everything I have said doesn't work, format your computer.

If it tells you where the file is you may be able to delete it yourself. But if it is somewhere in your program files, it may damage a program when you do.

You may be able to call Norton Anti-virus and tell them about it, but if all else fails, It shouldn't really do any major damage. Rarely do viruses actually permanently delete stuff or damage things.

Also, try downloading AVG anti virus. It is free, and very good.

Good Luck and hope this helps.

Heres what to do if nothing else works, I just went through this myself. I tried system restore to an earlier date, anti spy programs, two different anti-virus programs, none of which worked. Finally I did a total restore back to factory specifications, it worked great--I lost a lot of my programs, but at least I got rid of the virus. Im putting my programs back in, important ones first. How to do it--turn off your pc, wait a few seconds, then turn it on. You will only have a few seconds, your screen should say restore (F11) push it quickly then follow directions--if you arent quick enough turn it off and try again.

you can submit this report to norton and they should send you an email with instructions on how to remove/repair/fix it - assuming of course you have a registered version of norton with support - or you can go to the norton website for help
2007-09-12 12:09:14 UTC
either go to a store like best buy or circuit city and buy the newest norton anti virus software and just install it in your computer or you can go to the norton website and download the anti virus software from there

Switch off System Restore as back up files may be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.

Download avg antispyware and run it. Then delete what it finds. Then run ccleaner(ccleaner.com) then restart. then run the avg cleaner again to see if its on there. And hope its not on there. If u cant get it off then try asqared antimalware.(emsisoft.com). If that dont work go use spysweeper. (webroot.com) Avg is what took all of my trojans off my pc. If u need any other help please feel free to IM or email me any time thanks.

Norton can't fix anything now. You need to take it to your local repair shop. IT should cost around $80. Another $15 or so if you want them to back-up you files and restore them when finished.
2007-09-12 11:55:30 UTC
If you can locate the file paths you can disable it yourself.

Basically you look for the program or anything connected to it. Force a stop on it and rename it.

If that does not work, re-formating might be one of your only options.
2007-09-12 12:00:29 UTC
the only solution in this case is to send it to a specialist and examine it to fix it.

but, you need to take care that some sites they plant these messages in your machine and when you click on the message they direct you to a site that sells the solution when it is really nothing, they just want to sell the soft ware, so take your machine to a specialist and try to check.

spyware doctor though may help.
