Which is better anti-virus, malware, spyware removal? Norton or AVG? My Laptop became slow when i installed my old norton 2006 w/ my new norton 2009. I don't really know what happened but nevertheless, i'm really into finding the comparison between norton and avg so i could switch to which has the maximum virus protection. (",)

For maximum virus protection, Norton Internet security is much better then AVG.

Norton is one of the old company in security related with a high experience.

Personally I use Norton Internet security 2005

but the back-draw of Norton is slowing the PC, due to its high protection on each files and folder, in order to speed up the PC you can an check some deep protection to gain faster speed of OS performance.

about AVG, in old time I used it, but after some time I figured out the my PC contain virus.

So I recommend you to use Norton.

other recommended anti-virus is Kaspersky, and NOD32 (Faster then Norton)

Norton haters, accept the fact (even though for you it's still impossible) Norton is one of the best anti-malware solutions avaliable on the market.

THEY DO NOT USE UP ALL OF SYSTEM RESOURCES, IN FACT IT USES THE LEAST MEMORY OUT OF ALL THE MAJOR SECURITY VENDORS.

Norton Internet Security 2009 (NIS 2009) is currently the FASTEST internet security package (at 7mb memory usage only!) (beats kaspersky by 15mb)

NOD32 IS NOT FASTER THAN NORTON, AVIRA IS NOT FASTER THAN NORTON, NO MAJOR INTERNET SECURITY BRAND IS FASTER THAN NIS 2009.

Proof http://www.pcauthority.com.au/Review/127995,norton-internet-security-2009-believe-the-hype.aspx

NIS 2009 has the lowest system usage (therefore fastest) product on the market. With high a detection rate of 92% on par with Kaspersky.

Norton Internet Security 2009 is the Fastest (more proof)

AVG provides a low 81% detection rate and it has FALSE positives, that is non-viruses will be detected as viruses.

AVG Free does not contain Anti-Rootkit protection so rootkits may be hidden in your system.

AVG Free does not contain the new Safe Downloads & Instant Messaging protection (Web Shield technology) so it does not screen your downloads and communication for viruses and spyware.

AVG Free does not protect against identity theft, hacker attacks, infected downloads, infected instant-messaging and spam.

AVG Free does not contain a firewall which can protect you from hackers acquiring access to your computer.

(AVG state this themselves, just click the link below and scroll down)

Also answerers must understand, a free anti-virus alone can't fully protect a system.

By the time of answering this, NIS 2010 has just been released. Faster than ever and using new reputation-based technology, this eliminates the old signature-based scanning and opens new potentials for nexgen security.

Norton being a commercial AV would have overall have better protection than the free version of AVG.

There are plenty of other options. Kaspersky is quite well known for having one of the highest detection rates, though it is let down by the fact that many users gripe about how difficult it is to use compared to other products.

Common sense > any antivirus.

Check out: http://downloads.cnet.com which has ratings I use AVG antivirus, & SuperAntiSpyware (all freeware).

McAffee site advisor warns of dubious URLs in red (but it necessarily slows things down, fractionally, so I uninstalled it; those with fast connections may not even notice any delay). They have antivirus as well.

Some older stuff: FREE, SUPERIOR FIREWALL: Zonealarm: http://www.zonelabs.com/ (I had to use an intermediary website to access a Vista compatible download, http://majorgeeks.com/downloads34.html , if memory serves.

I have it, and other top sites written down, somewhere. Downloads 29 is for antivirus). Here are some others: http://mypchelp.blogspot.com/2006/10/ess… and http://www.pcworld.ca/news/column/f91440… and http://www.1obit.com/info-awc.html

FREE ANTIVIRUS, ETC. Grisoft, AVG, Comodo, Clamwin, and Avira. Only use one!!! (Destabilises operating platform otherwise: each treats the other as malware, and shuts the system down, to prevent further infection).

PC Cillin, a reputable product, (Australian Defence Force uses it) is available for around $39. Avoid Norton Antivirus! (Popular, but slow to respond to new threats: DIFFICULT TO REMOVE!!!). Kaspersky has a good reputation (not for novices).

Well am using AVG free on windows 7 and for a free software its pretty good. The guy sitting next to me prefers AVG cause he does not like paying for stuff. i use Norton 360 2010, and its cheap i like the the safety of knowing i paid for my protection and it wont let me down. P.S if you buy AVG it should be cheap and you know that your secure.i will recommend your try avg free and then you should decide, also norton has free upgrade from 2009 to 2010.

norton uses all pc resources and is **** so it will slow you pc right down, i suggest using bitdefender 09, and a free download of spybot search and destroy(download it from safer networking, not sbpybot.com which is a virus)
