nasty little bugger this one - sticks it self in to the windows registry and changes the DNS ip address that is why you can not get a IP address
if you are comfortable with the windows registry - click run then type regedit
now navigate to
HKLM
\SYSTEM
\ControlSet001
\Services
\Tcpip
\Parameters
\Interfaces
in the right hand pane look for the trojan name or value and delete
then click file and exit
now restart
hope this helps
Oh you may have to reset your IP address as well
afterwards click run then type cmd
type ipconfig /release
then
ipconfig /renew
PPS
OK need to go back into the windows registry and navigate to the same location look for any of these values in the right hand pane
OH and make sure INTERFACES is highlighed look for
[Trojan.]Win32.DNSChanger.p (Kaspersky); [Trojan.]Flush.D (Sophos); [Win32.]Netmesser.J; [Win32.]Netmesser Family; [Trojan.]Win32.DNSChanger.k (Kaspersky); [Troj/]DNSBust-A (Sophos); [Trojan.]Win32.DNSChanger.m (Kaspersky); [Win32.]Netmesser.I; [Win32/]Netmesser.I!Trojan; [Trojan.]Win32.DNSChanger.f (Kaspersky); [Win32/]Netmesser.A!Trojan; [Win32.]Netmesser.C; [Win32/]Netmesser.D!Trojan; [Win32.]Netmesser.F; [Trojan.]Win32.DNSChanger.d (Kaspersky); [Win32.]Netmesser.D; [Win32.]Netmesser.A; [Trojan.]Flush.A (Symantec); [Win32/]Netmesser.C!Trojan; [ ]SpoofDNS (McAfee); [Trojan.]Win32.DNSChanger.e (Kaspersky); [Win32.]Netmesser.H; [Trojan.]Flush.B (Symantec); [Win32/]Netmesser.H!Trojan; [Trojan.]Win32.DNSChanger.h (Kaspersky); [AdClicker-]BM (McAfee); [Troj/]DNSBust-B (Sophos); [TROJ_]NETMESS.A (Trend); [Win32/]Netmesser.B!Trojan; [Win32.]Netmesser.B; [Win32.]Netmesser.E; [Trojan.]Win32.DNSChanger.a (Kaspersky); [Win32/]DNSChanger.9825!Trojan; [Trojan.]Win32.DNSChanger.g (Kaspersky); [Win32/]DNSChanger.9725!Trojan; [Win32.]Netmesser.G; [Win32.]Netmesser.K;
or any similar - these buggers take many forms
just make sure that no of these are still in the windows registry
no back to your network problem
right click on my computer and the properties - then hardware - then device manager - then click on the plus next to network cards > right click on you network card the click on uninstall
now restart
then go back to run then type cmd
type ipconfig
what does it say (you may have to email me with the result as Im off to my bed soon - so i won't be able to answer tonight)
if it comes back with a ip address and defauolt gateway
ping each of these
type ping then the ip address - do you get a reply
also
ping 127.0.0.1
if you do not get a replay then it has screwed your tcp/ip settings and the winsock
try this
netsh winsock reset - only if you have got win xp service pack 2
