Question:
Really annoying virus in Windows Explorer!?
2008-10-24 12:59:01 UTC
Whenever I am using Windows Explorer (My Computer) and I perform any action; for example opening a folder, I get the error (Obviously virus produced):

Warning!
Attention (My username)
Some dangerous viruses detected on your system. Microsoft Windows XP files corrupted.
This may lead to destruction of important files in C:\WINDOWS. Download protection software now!
Click OK to download antispyware. (Recommended)
[YES][NO]

Yes opens some dodgy looking installer and No takes me to http://sc.videofreeforonline.com/id/4912933/4/1/ which pretends to scan my computer and surprisingly finds viruses!

Please help; I tried running scans on Norton 08 and AVG 8 this is really annoying I can't do anything on explorer! It also affects Internet Explorer, but who uses that!? Luckily I use Minefield now so it hasn't learned how to do anything to that yet.

Thank you so much for any help!

Download and install Malwarebytes (also recommend SUPERAntiSpyware).

Malwarebytes is a site dedicated to fighting malware. Malwarebytes has developed a variety of tools that can identify and remove malicious software from your computer. When your computer becomes infected, Malwarebytes can provide the needed assistance to remove the infection and restore the machine back to optimum performance.

You may need to run it in Safe Mode (tap F8 as the computer boots up and choose to boot to safe mode).

YOU HAVE ANTIVIRUS 2009 A rogue Anti-Spyware/Virus

PRINT OFF THESE INSTRUCTIONS ON ANOTHER COMPUTER

& Here is how to remove it

First disable all antivirus and spyware programs (there not doing anything anyway) by clicking start menu then run then type msconfig go to start-up uncheck Antivirus & then go to services check off hide all Microsoft services and uncheck AV. Then restart computer in safe mode or not (safe mode not always needed).

Try Malware Bytes First much faster to use and update

Malwarebytes Anti Malware http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html FREE EDITION (one of the free AV to Remove Antivirus 2009)

Kaspersky AV 2009 http://usa.kaspersky.com/trials/home-users/anti-virus/ 30 day trial

Watched youtube video of it removing antivirus 2009 I guarantee it to work

Also, turn off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there.

1. Log out and reboot your machine.

2. When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.

3. Select Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking from the resulting menu.

4. When the login screen comes up, log in as Administrator. By default, Administrator has no password.

5. The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different.

6. When you're finished doing what you need to do, log out and reboot back into normal mode.

When finished removing malware schedule a check disk by going to My Computer Local C Properties Tools and Check Disk Restart Computer let it scan and done!

If you are getting internet popups still try resetting IE7 by going to Settings Options Advanced and click RESET

This is ad-ware to my reckoning, as Norton picks up Antivirus 2008. (I've had it myself). Try an online scan at www.eset.com and also at www.symantec.com. also use malwarebytes. Just remember though, it is a fact that AV software, no matter what it is, NEVER works as well as it usually would if it is installed AFTER a pc is infected. Thus, backing up and formatting then investing in and installing an excellent AV (Norton 2009, or Kaspersky 09) would work well. Good luck

I had the same nearly two days ago and I was using explorer and mozilla spontaneously. I ran Norton and Spyware doctor once at a time and both gave me a report of Trojan, medium risk!

I do not know how I got it in my system so I can report it! But I am glad that I removed it from my computer. Good luck with yours!

If it flashed while browsing the internet, it is 100% spyware. If it flashed while offline and just doing some documents then it may be from your computer's security software.

ALso, i would reccomend updating your security software and probably running it immediatly and

burn your important documents in a CD or back them up in a flash drive.
