create exceptions for them both in the firewall.........

are you using windows xp firewall?, if so, i cant understand why an ms product would block an ms product..........lol

start/settings/controlpanel/windowsfirewall/exceptions ..........look for them in the list, if they are not there add them..........

Go into internet options in firefox > Connection> & choose automatically detect internet settings. Don't fill out any proxy details & Firefox will connect using the routers settings.

In Messenger goto Tools> Options> Connection> ensure the Proxy server is unchecked. Apps may need to be closed & restarted for settings to take effect.

do you utilize a proxy server? if not bypass to information superhighway explorer > techniques > recommendations > connections > settings LAN settings and uncheck proxy server, in case you DO use one then ensure that's desperate up properly and additionally you have the rights port
