We have a computer at work that had several viruses on it and it was the biggest mess I have ever seen. After cleaning it up it has the following residual problems:

1) Optical drives will not read.
2) Cannot browse internet (although I can ping our local network and our internet server, but not internet sites themselves).
3) Am getting "Memory could not be 'read'" errors on several programs (msfeedssync.exe, explorer.exe, etc.) when I access My Network Places
4) Regedit wouldn't run (fixed that though)
5) Could not see "Folder Options" on Windows explorer. Fixed that, but still cannot see "Hidden Files" even though the option is checked and applied, when reopened it shows it unchecked again.

I have done the following:
1) Run a registry fix/cleaner
2) Have run WinsockXPfix

It is such a mess I would just reinstall the entire system, but since one cannot view/read any of the optical drives, I cannot use the system restore disks.

I don't think I missed anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.pcboostcleaner.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

The main problem from getting hit hard by malware is, it is not easy to know if the PC is really clean. You can do a repair or even reinstall windows, but not doing it right will not guarantee the malware is completely gone. I would either hire an expert PC Tech to do it right or ask Brian for help at the link below. Brian has helped me and a whole bunch of other users with advanced PC problems. He is one of the very best IT-Techs out there and is not only free but is one heck of a nice guy...

Sometimes the only way to fix a bad virus problem completely is to do a reinstall of the operating system.

Backup anything that's important if possible

Write down exactly what your video card, your audio card, your network card, etc are.

Reinstall the operating system.

Install a virus/spyware protection program.
