Question:
Cannot open file - "User does not have access privileges"?
2011-10-30 21:17:22 UTC
I am using Windows 7 and I recently reformatted my computer because it was getting to slow, etc. Now it is as good as new but I cannot access one of my Word Document files because I had encrypted the file on my system before reformatting it and I think I might have played around with the 'Security' tab in the properties of this file as well.

I really need to access this document. What should I do?

Thanks!

on your Help and Support from start click on it to open. On search bar type "recover encrypted files or folders" for information about your problem.

According to what I read, your word document might be at a loss since you didn't back it up before reformatting.

I would check to be sure that you are logged into your computer on an administrator account, in order to see if that's why you are unable to access this file.

If you are logged into an administrator account, like you said, perhaps you may need to adjust your computer's security settings, in order to view the file. You can access your computer's security settings by going to the Control Panel and then clicking on the "Security" option, where you should be able to access a variety of different security related settings from your firewall and antivirus settings, to general security.

However, if that doesn't work, perhaps you should try using the program that you encrypted the file with to see if you are somehow able to decrypt the program.

A search using your favorite search engine may help you to find out what options you have, as far as decrypting and opening this Word document.

Good luck and I hope I helped you!

The error 3050 normally refers to a folder which is read only and needs to have full access rights set (Windows system settings) due to the fact it generates an 'LDB' file. This LDB file is a locking file that is self generating containing all current users (machine ID) currently looking at the same name MDB file (in the same location). You can safely delete this file (and users must be out/off the system) and it will re-generate itself the next time you restart. If you can run the 'Compact and Repair' command in Access to repair bad indexing and any potential corrupted data values then this is preferable. You need to check the Permissions from properties for the folder in question and check that all users assigned have full access. Hope this helped.

That's going to be tough to decrypt because the previous User Name account you had, cyphered the file. I'm afraid that's rather impossible... unless you willing to spend money and a lot of time to do that.

MS Office's got a very strong document encryption, but who's going to spend time decoding it? Is it really that important?

Okay... Then try this:

Check the advanced sharing permission on the shared folder or file.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Share-files-with-someone

Try these steps and see if it helps:

a. Take ownership of the folder or file

i. Right-click the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.

ii. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.

iii. Click Edit, and then do one of the following:

iv. To change the owner to a user or group that is not listed, click Other users and groups and, in Enter the object name to select (examples), type the name of the user or group, and then click OK.

v. To change the owner to a user or group that is listed, in the Change owner to box, click the new owner.

vi. If you want to take ownership of the contents of the folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.

vii. Click OK, and then click Yes when you receive the following message: You do not have permission to read the contents of directory folder name. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control?

viii. All permissions will be replaced if you click Yes.

ix. Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and its contents.

Below link for reference:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Troubleshoot-access-denied-when-opening-files-or-folders

b. Give full permission to the folder. Steps to follow

i. Right click on the Folder select Properties

ii. Select Security tab

iii. Choose Edit button(if prompted to click continue, please click on continue)

iv. Select Add type in ‘Everyone’ (without quotes)

v. Click on Check names

vi. Click Ok

vii. Under Group or user name select Everyone

viii. Under Permissions for system check Allow full control.

Your problem is most likely due to a missing file or you have a virus on your computer. You should use your anti-virus and scan it and see.
