You are going to be hard pressed to find a real-time (full-time protection) AV that is still compatible with Win98.

Avast as suggested above is NOT, nor are Avira nor AVG.

ClamWin Antivirus is compatible with Win98, but it is not a real-time antivirus; you have to manually update it and scan manually.

ALSO, there are a lot of rogue programs out there who try to confuse people by using similar names to the real product. So it is important to note that the program suggested by an above answerer is called Spybot Search (not "seek") and Destroy.

Wason long conventional because of the fact the final?, at first as for anti virus Avira is the final unfastened, Avast sucked until it released its 5.0 replace. Avira falls in the back of Avast not in it is virus detection yet their lack off stepped forward heuristics and information superhighway shelter, there is the best answer. For an older gadget choose for AVG although I hate it, it is far greater advantageous then maximum different. McAfee blows -.-

yeah i have a suggestion. try linux on it. windows 98 is not supported anymore :) really try LINUX go to www.linuxmint.com download the XFCE edition under the community editions. burn it on a CD (its an .iso cd image) using imgburn.com boot it up on your system .. and click on the install icon you get after the liveCD boots up. and tell me if linux WAS your answer. ive been using linux for 4 years. no viruses/ spyware and it runs REALLLY fast. teh latest is linux mint 8. it comes preinstalled with almost everything you need and for anything else you need you can get it freely from teh package manager included in there. its based on unix ( same as apple). i hope i helped you.
