Internet Explorer security flaw?
2008-12-16 19:38:20 UTC
When I heard abot IEs security flaw I just unplugged my computer because I was getting warnings about a trojan virus. Will this keep me safe until Microsoft releases a patch? Also, how will I know when the patch is ready? I am browsing from the wii opera browser right now which is really annoying...

I understand your weariness, I too wasn't sure what to do. After a little research on the hijacking threat, I decided to go ahead and download Firefox. So far I just love it. There's a couple toolbar options I no longer have and haven't been able to find anything similar but the ease and speed is awesome. Opera is fine to use, it's one of the few that are suggested to use.

Microsoft said the patch is supposed to be released tomorrow, but we'll see. I think for the time being tho, I'm sticking w/Firefox. I'm really tired anyway of all the IE errors I've been getting lately. It's funny, one of the reporting sites where I found info on about it, Microsoft said that switching to another browser was an over-reaction. Who are they kidding? Of course they're going to react that way, if everyone switches, their stupid browser will no longer be needed and they'd be screwed :)

Hope you figure out what to do, and soon..I wouldn't use IE w/o that patch.

The Security Flaw your talking about is very serious Microsoft is working on a patch and is suppose to have it out in a day or two. Your right in not using it. Trend Mirco says that over 10,000 web pages are infected. If you go to one of those you will get infected. You should download firefox. Then update windows everyday for the next couple of days.

THIS MAY BE PRETTY LONG, BUT FOLLOW THIS STEPS AND IT WOULD HELP YOU

the best way to fix that is to turon on ur windows update.

go to control panel> security> then click windows update

once update is turned on, updates will be automatically downloaded.

the nest issue is about the trojan.

you may be already infected, so get an antivirus. you may download those for free. go to www.download.com, search for avast for free, then download it. once you have downloaded the installer, install it then scan. scanning will remove the viruses.

step three is removing avast. uninstall avast, then get a firewall. if you dont have a good firewall, the built in firewall in ur pc would do.

again, go to control panel>security>then click turn firewall on.

step 4: get a new browser like mozilla firefox.

back to www.download.com, search for mozilla firefox, download it, then install. open firefox instead of internet explorer.

note: you wont get updates for ur pc if you unplugged ur connection

hope this helps

hih i doesn't know what he's talking about, IE is one of the LEAST SAFEST browsers out there, no joke. Ask any computer technician, they don't use IE. If your worried about the internet, you can download the safest browser, mozilla firefox, here

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

If you've got a trojan on your PC you will have to get someone to fix it for you though, if an unknown program is telling you that, then you have rouge antispyware, which is something that tells you you've got malware and makes you pay to "remove" it, even though itself is the malware. Just to let you know it's a pain in the A** to remove!

Oh and I recommend you check this out if you don't believe me

Good luck!

If you are getting a warning from the Window 2009 Antivirus it would be a trojan and you need to scan your computer with a real anti-virus and not with a virus.

Internet Explorer is one of the safest browser, assuming your using ie8 http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/beta/default.aspx

The vast majority uses IE even though Firefox is very popular also. The warnings you are getting may be caused be ad ware on your PC. Check http://antivirus.about.com/od/spywareandadware/tp/adwarespyware.htm for help.

Take care.
