ok, so yesterday on wikipedia I was reading about video game emulators, and it had a link to a website about the game emulators. Well the website had a virus that it got on my comp, what it did was bring up the command line, then my antivirus software found the virus shortly after and I told it to deny access. Then the virus started trying to bring up webpages all by itself but I turned off the internet so it couldnt do anything.

Anyways, do you guys know where viruses are usually hidden, so I can manually delete it. I dont want to load a new antivirus because my current one is just fine. I am afraid that if I will turn on the internet the virus will open up websites that have even more viruses and cripple my computer.

So could you guys tell me where to look for the virus so I can manually delete it. Also do you guys know if the windows system restore will fix it.

RESTART YOUR PC IN SAFE MODEthen run your antivirus and when if finishes use the remove or heasl infection option not to sure about AVIRA as i use AVG but they all work pretty much the same.

To get into the Windows XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.

in safe mode u will have limited use of your computer as it will only load the basics needed to run. in safe mode minimal windows components and progs are running. you will be able to use your A.V

If you know the exact name of the virus you may be able to search the internet on how to manually delete it. I do not think system restore will remove it because every time you run system restore windows automatically creates a undo the previous restore point that will still have the infection. Usually it is a good idea to delete all restore points and make brand new ones after you clean up the infection. This is done by turning system restore off then back on again.

Just be sure your anti-virus is updated. You could run a manual scan and see it you can remove it. System restore probably wont help with a virus. Manually deleting may not work and the file could be any name.

Try these programs.

Download, install, update, and run one or all of these:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (Free, don't register it)

SUPERAntiSpyware Free

a-squared Free

***************************

Try running Avira in safe mode. Tap F8 during reboot to get there.

Trying to manually remove it can be difficult, if not impossible. If your anti-virus program cant remove it, try some free online scanners, or the tools I listed above.

Online scanners:

There are no set rules for where viruses hide. Unless you know exactly what virus you have there is no easy method of deleting them.

However there are online scans that you can use which do not require you to install a new anti-virus program.

Active Scan by Panda

House Call by Trend Micro

Well, you are obviously on a PC with Internet access. If your anti-virus is just fine, why not run a scan? It'll tell you where it's at and possibly remove it for you and tell you the location of the file.

u cant usually manualy delete viruses.

just scan ur pc with ur antivirus and the find the virus .

but the antivirus should only delete the virus or it may leed to a disaster.

if the virus is too strong and u could not delete .

then it is better to format ur pc

Sounds like a spyware infection to me, especially if you're getting random pop ups. You can clean this several ways, I like spybot search and destroy, and superantispyware. If I encounter a browser hijacker I use hijackthis. These are all free utilities.

firstly, that's a strange virus!!!!!!

secondly, viruses are not like any simple files.....that you can delete.

in case u want to do that--install linux(under DOS) then mount ur windows partition and search the files(virus)--........

found---then delete then
