if my mcafee expired and I haven't renewed yet and just have AVGfree and adaware on there and only the?

anti hacker is working on Mcafree but not antivirus, antiabuse or antispam is working, can I get infected with virus if I go to man (the spam bot on yahoo answers)'s link.

What would be the signs of being infected and will AVGfree protect me.?

No need to pay for Mcafee, in fact I would uninstall it completely.



The most comprehensive Viral, spyware adware coverage can be accomplished with freeware products alone.



Make sure you stay up to date on patches of viral and ad/spyware lists as well as any windows patches.

AVG Free is awesome for Antivirus, make sure you automatically update, it outperforms MCAfee on most reviews.



Spybot Search and Destroy for Spy/Adware

After installing, I like the TeaTimer app with it because it prevents reg changes and Browser Hijacking. It can be annoying when installing or using SW that makes registry changes because it won't allow them without your permission so occasionally you have turn it off.

You should be fine as long as you have AVG set to update the Definition files daily...McAfee used to be an excellent viral scanner however AVG Free has a growing number of followers/supporters now and it is being called one of the best viral scanners out there challenging even the more pricey ones. Actually...you shouldn't have more than one viral scanner on your system anyway...you can have a number of the spyware, malware and trojan scanners but sometimes the doubling up of viral scanners results in each of them failing to catch important viruses or registering viruses that aren't really there because they aren't playing nice with the other program.



As long as you have each of your scanners set to scan automatically on a daily basis and all have their updates...you should have no problem.

So long as AVG is setup to be monitoring your system and is up-to-date, yes it will protect you. It doesn't matter which antivirus you are running, so long as something is running (granted yes some are better than others).

That being said, I still wouldn't advise visiting a page that is known to have a virus. To put it short, it's looking for trouble. But if you went accidently, yes you should be fine.

Firewall will work perfectly and there is no need to look into it for atleast a year.



Use Avast or better AV than AVG.

It is never a good idea to expose yourself to a virus, hoping that your antivirus software will protect you. The truth is, no antivirus product stops everything, or we would all buy it and use it.



I don't know which virus is associated with the spambot's link, I follow my own good advice and don't go there.



If you go and your software doesn't block it, it will cause you much aggravation and possibly some money before you are through.

All I use is AVG Anti-Virus, Yahoo Anti-Spyware, Windows firewall, and the Firewall in my router, and I'm clean.



On my other PC I tried Avast anti-virus, which is also free, and it works good too. No trash has gotten on either of my PCs.

if your mcafee expired, that means that it will not receive any virus updates, and since programs spit out new viruses daily to try and get into someone's system, a person's antivirus needs to update daily, AVG does this unless you change the settings, that is why AVG would stop it then an expired mcafee.
