Question:
Spyware - Windows Police Pro.?
2009-09-18 04:09:49 UTC
Need help getting rid of this Trojan or whatever it is. It has disabled my Norton and Windows Defender. I tried to download something off the internet but cant. Don't know if it is because the computer is running so slow now or because the virus is blocking it. I get redirected 9 out of 10 times when i try to get on a web site. Is there a way to remove it myself with out a download. Note that I am not overly tech savvy. No DOS, just know the basics.

Windows Police Pro is a fake program that hijacks your computer and tries to force you to buy it. It includes a trojan that blocks you from running other programs mainly because it does not want to be removed. The site below offers specific instructions on how to remove Windows Police Pro. They may seem overwhelming at first glance, but it really shouldn’t take a computer novice more than 5 minutes to perform the steps listed there.

(make sure to see the ‘Special Instructions’ section towards bottom of page)

You can run antivirus and antispyware programs, but the sad fact is if you have found one virus on your computer, you probably have several. Cleaning the computer now requires you to follow these steps, because modern viruses and spyware entrench themselves in files that your computer needs in order to run:

1. Virus-check your data files (not application files-- you have installer CDs for those).

2. Back up the data files, getting them off your hard drive.

3. Get your original operating system CDs that came with your computer.

4. Boot your computer from the operating system CD.

5. Select the option that erases your hard drive and then reinstall your system software.

6. Turn on your software firewall that came with your operating system.

7. Reconnect to the internet, and download *all* Windows updates, no matter how long it takes.

8. Reinstall your application software, and update the applications as much as you can.

9. Reinstall your data files.

10. Create a limited user account on your system that does *not* have administrator access, and web surf only from this account.

Yes, this is a pain in the butt. No, there is no other way. No, antivirus and antispyware programs cannot fix this problem on its own.

So, what do you do in the future?

1. Never click on links you find in an e-mail.

2. Never open an e-mail attachment, ever.

3. Only download files from a reputable website that you know is on the up-and-up.

4. Never use bit-torrent and other file-sharing programs.

5. Never use an unsolicited drive-checking site.

6. Turn off all java and java scripting by default, and only enable java and java scripting for sites that you know you can trust.

7. Never read an unsolicited e-mail, and delete spam immediately. It is possible to be hacked by reading an e-mail alone.

Please adhere to the 'dont's' I provided above, because you will have to repeat the cleaning steps that I listed first *every time you get infected.* Anti-spyware and anti-virus programs are good to have, but they are a second line of defense. The best way to protect your system is you, and changing your behavior.

Good luck!

All these changes in your PC are made by Windows Police Pro. You can try uninstall it using these manual removal instructions:

http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-windows-police-pro.html

Also, after doing deleting it manually, you should scan your PC with some reputable anti-spyware like Spyware Doctor or Malwarebytes. If your PC still will be blocked, scan it from some portable device, like USB key or other.

If your able to access System Restore you do not have Police Pro. Seeing that you have access to the web yet, go to Norton and have their software scan your system and tell you what you do have.

Try going on another PC, copying SuperAntiSpyware and Spybot to a CD (as flash drives can get infected) installing + running.

you need to stop windows police pro running service first in order to remove it from your computer,so follow this steps:# This application will disable the ability to use your Windows Task Manager. To fix this, please download the following file to your desktop.

Fixtm.reg http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/reg/fixtm.reg

Once the file is downloaded, double-click on it and select Yes when it asks if you want to merge the data into your Registry. Once that is completed you should be able to use the Windows Task Manager.

# Now we need to end the two processes associated with Windows Police Pro as they do not allow you to run any applications that we will need to remove this program. To do this we need to launch the Windows Task Manager by right-clicking on the time in the Windows task bar and then selecting Task Manager..When Task Manager is started you will be in the Applications section.# At this point you should click on the Processes tab.

# You will now be at a screen that shows the running processes on your computer. First put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Show processes from all users. Then scroll through the list till you see the process called Windows Police Pro.exe and left-click on it once so it becomes highlighted. Then click on the End Process button. 6. When you click on the End Process button, Task Manager will ask you to confirm if you are sure you want to terminate it .

At this point you should press the Yes button in order to kill the process.

7. After you have ended the process, scroll through the list of processes until you find the or processes. Then end this process as well by clicking on the End Process button and confirming that you want to end it. Please note that in Windows there is a legitimate program called so please be careful to only end the process that is spelled

8. Now that the two Windows Police Pro processes are terminated, we need to fix one last thing so that you are able to run Windows programs. To do this, please download the following file to your desktop.
