I just got a new computer because my old one was very old and virus riddled, But there were a lot of personal files on it that I want to transfer over to my new computer. Because the old laptop had so many issues I have no clue what is infected with a virus, and what wasn't, so I need to make sure that the cloud will check and at least tell me if there are any so I don't put it on my new one. I would rather not pay for it because this is probably the only time I will use it. If I do have to pay for it then not regularly like a bill.
plz and thnx : )

Google drive scans files smaller than 50mb.

I would just run my own scans using the following:

malwarebyes antimalware

trendmicro housecall

avast antivirus.

I wouldn't execute any program on your hard drive but all documents and media files should be safe if they pass those scans. (I'd switch my media player to VLC though, too many malicious media files target Microsoft Media Player as it's the default)

Hope this helps!

I would not recommend it since antivirus don't detect everything, but let's assume its some very important files.

There's no cloud service that I know of offered storage and free antivirus. But there's some way to do this, the same thing but more steps.

1. Do you have an antivirus software? If not, that's probably why you get viruses on your computer. So if you haven't yet, get an antivirus program on your new computer, something like Avast or MSE. These are all free.

2. There's a cloud scanner by Bitdefender and you could Google it "60 second scanner bitdefender". Try it, but I think it only scan the whole computer.

3. If the above didn't fit you, download Malwarebyte Antimalwares for scanning specific file.

4. After that, upload your file t a cloud storage like Skydrive or Google Drive. Again, I dont recommend using flash drive.

5. Download the files to your new computer.

Remember: always have antivirus on your computer installed (except if the computer is too slow, you may reconsider that).

Hope this help :)

First of all, base on your computer skill level , you should have a paid Anti-virus software.

It's really possible for some pro to keep computer clean without AV software,

but seems like you are no that kind.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then let me tell you the 'free way'. May AV software get free trial edition maybe like 3 months.

And all the AV are no fully guaranteed totally clean your machine, but they are usually good enough.

do as follow

1st install one free trial AV software(trusted big brand ) in your new machine.

2nd

if data is big and can no use flash drive, pull your old hard drive out,

use some connector one side connect your old hard the other connect to your new machine's usb. that is a useful small should no be higher than $20, possible $5 to$10. you can search 'usb hard drive connector/adapter'. then connect to your new machine , this will be used as mobile hard drive. the AV software may auto scan, if not let it do it. then you are good to go.

if no too big data or u don't want to do that u can use flash drive for many loads, this may be slower if big data

u need to run scan to your flush drive each time you connect to your new machine.

and so much that it is. have fun!

Any question let me know.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

as long as u get the latest AV software updated , run a full scan will be fine.

if the AV is out of payment and can no update or disabled, you can go try free trial as above.

you can put it in both of your PCs

by the way 7 years old machine doesn't mean bad or need to be changed.

a new machine could be retarded in a few minutes if some malware or useless software installed.

i have a laptop bought at 2007 nice maintained both hardware and software , still works fine and performance even better than many new laptops.

you may open a topic on maintaining pc if you like.
