I am using open dns but cant seem to find a way to block everything except only what I enter into the allow list. I have three computers on a wireless network. I don't want to have to change setting on each computer, I like the way that the dns block works, just want to block all the sites that are not categorized. Any ideas?

"allows you to block everything with the exception of domains you have on your Always Allow list in your account."

Opendns is great. * I use it. Has a thing on the Customized view of the Web Content Filtering. You could click Whitelist only, and add sites you like to visit at the bottom of the "always allow" An example is, I have all social sites blocked on mine except the one I go to. I can still get to it but all other sites are blocked. I could put a certain number of sites I visit only down there and everything else is blocked. If you have the open DNS deluxe account you get more sites to block. 25 or 50? can't remember. I have mine set to High/customized. I used the free account for a long time but use the deluxe now, only 10 bucks for a year. The Family Shield plan is being touted right now, but I don't think it has as many options as the deluxe.

Block website with password

Step 1

Click Start > Control Panel > Internet Options.

Step 2

Click the "Content" tab on the top toolbar and select "Parental Controls." Click "Create a New User Account." To set parental controls and block web content, you must create a new user account.

Step 3

Enter the new account name and click "Create an Account." If you are creating an account for a child, enter her name.

Step 4

Select "On, Enforce Current Settings" under the Parental Controls option. Click "Block Some Websites or Content." Click "Windows Vista Web Filter."

Step 5

Click the "Edit the Allow and Block List" link. Enter the website address into the space bar and click "Block." Click "OK" to close.

Step 6

Restart the computer. Click the new user name icon and set the password at the log on screen. A password will now be required to access the specific websites that are blocked.

1, If you use Vista or Win 7 or Mac, there are built-in parental controls. You can set allow list and block all others in the pc panel

2, Use FF add-ons to block sites https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/extensions/

3,Use a web filter. http://aobo.cc/aobo-porn-filter.html But they are NOT FREE. You can add the websites you don't want to visit to blacklist or just set keywords to block websites. Also there is whitelist for wanted sites.

Good luck!

You can download the window live family safety program, it will block sites by category or URL specific. Otherwise, you could do it at the router level but my netgear had a ton of spots to enter URLs to ban, whereas my Linksys has like 6 slots to enter the address.

you can download Mozilla Firefox and go to Tool>options>Content, and unmark the load images automatically and the enable java cases, because most of the games use java, and since not images gonna load you wont be distracted, and you can put exceptions to the websites you are going to use, so you can see the images of that website, but this doesn't block the websites at all, maybe theres a better answer.
