I do NOT know what happened, BUT...............

every single time I turn on my laptop, it shows............. "configuring windows update" and it takes a LONG time to do it.

But it happens EVERY single time I turn on my laptop. I cannot do anything at all until it's done!!

But I did NOT click or install anything to cause this to happen. So I do not know where it came from.

HOW DO I MAKE IT STOP?????????

Also, EVERY time I shut down the computer, it says........ "updates installing, do not turn off computer".

That is ALWAYS showing up as well.

HOW do I turn THAT STOP as well?????

I don't know why these 2 things are happening. It's driving me crazy!!! Can anyone help?!?!?!

Thank you!!!

How to Stop Windows Updating Every Time You Start Up

Sometimes, troubleshooting your PC is easy.

In most cases, by default, your Windows operating system automatically checks for any available updates. If your computer runs slowly during start-up, turning automatic updates off is a good way to save time while your computer is booting up. You can still check for updates manually, however, at a time more convenient for you. Depending on which version of Windows you have, the process may be a little different.

Difficulty: Easy

Instructions

Windows 98/XP

1.

1

Click the "Start" button located at the bottom left of your desktop and then click "Run."

2.

2

Type "sysdm.cpl" and then press "Enter."

3.

3

Click the "Automatic Updates" tab located at the top of the window that appears, and click the option that reads "Turn off Automatic Updates." Click the "OK" button located in the bottom-right corner of the window.

Windows Vista

4.

1

Click the "Start" button located in the bottom-left corner of the desktop.

5.

2

Type "Windows Update" in the search box and press "Enter."

6.

3

Click the "Change Settings" option located on the left pane of the window that appears.

7.

4

Click the "Never Check for Updates" option located on the right pane of the window.

Turn off Automatic Updates using Windows 7

Hi, I understand your frustration. I personally don't believe that you have to update as much as the software companies want you to. Remember its not only Windows! every program in your computer wants to update. I pay good money for my bandwidth and if I allow all the up dates through, my internet experience would be no better than dial-up.......The only program that I will allow automatic updates is my virus protection, only because new ones are created everyday. What I recommend is to go to Microsoft once a month. (www.microsoft.com) and search for "Critical Updates" download just those and turn auto updates off. This is just my opinion,,,,,,I have been doing this for about 6 years now and no problem up to date. {Control panel=security=windows updates.}

Hope it helps.

Windows will update the new updates when ever you are connected to internet. If there are no updates it won't. Updates are very important for a operating system to perform well. But If you are very annoyed about the updates, you can simply disable it. All you have to do is go to control panel > system and security> window updates and turn off updates. Below are few links which can help you out.
