I share DSL Internet connection with some people in the same house. I'm not the administrator. Just now, when I was in my yahoo account and clicked a button to delete an email message (or to read/move it), a dialog box suddenly appeard, that says:

"You have been disconnected from chat because you have signed into Yahoo! Messenger from another computer or device."

Well, I was never in any "chat" in my life and don't have a second computer. So what's happening? Did someone on the same local network (e.g. administrator) do something nasty? I don't think I had ever seen such before. I immediately unplugged the Ethernet cable. Any ideas what's going on?

Oh , i get it , 2 people in your house is using the same connection with the same IP address. The other person log on to his yahoo account and didn't log out, he just closed the browser which means that he is still logged on to his Yahoo account after eventually he gets disconnected. So when you are trying to access yours, the message appears because it is still detecting the same IP address but from another person.

The solution ??? Simple , tell the other guy to always log out after logging to whatever account. Or you can use 2 different IP addresses

If it is anything like G-Mail then it has a chat window on the yahoo bar, when you log into your yahoo account it will most likely automatically connect you to the chat. You cannot have this and a desktop yahoo open at the same time without it logging you out. If you had another yahoo window or program open with your yahoo account it would sign you out of the old window (and bring up the notice).

If you are sure you didn't have another window or program open then someone on your network might have logged into your yahoo account which shouldn't have the same affect as above. It shouldn't have the affect because you should be on different IP addresses and yahoo would not recognize you as being the same. If you are hooked up to the same IP address (ie first computer hooked up to modem, second computer hooked to first computer) then it would have the same affect as stated above.

Either case I would not worry about someone seeing what you are doing. Unless they connect to your computer and hook up through remote desktop then it is very unlikely. To learn more about Remote Desktop you can visit: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsXp/using/mobility/getstarted/Remoteintro.mspx

If you want to set up different IP addresses via router you can do this through your routers configuration page, just type in your default gateway into the browser's address bar.

Most routers assign dynamic IP addresses by default. They do this because dynamic ip address networks require no configuration. The end user can simply plug their computer in, and their network will work. When ip addresses are assigned dynamically, the router is the one that assigns them. Every time a computer reboots it asks the router for an ip address. The router then hands it an ip address that has not already been handed out to another computer. This is important to note. When you set your computer to a static ip address, the router does not know that a computer is using that ip address. So the very same ip address may be handed to another computer later, and that will prevent both computers from connecting to the internet. So when you assign a static IP addresses, it's important to assign an IP address that will not be handed out to other computers by the dynamic IP address server. The dynamic IP address server is generally referred to as the dhcp server.

It was not and error or spy or something it's just you. You have open your yahoo mail while you yahoo messenger is open. You see yahoo mail has now a yahoo chat messenger inside your email account that's why it will automatically sign in you account in also your yahoo messenger. So this will appear "You have been disconnected from chat because you have signed into Yahoo! Messenger from another computer or device." Try to observe it it was you also.

no they cant see "ur screen" but they can get into ur shared folders like documents folder etc. you cant really do anything about it since ur sharing the network and your not the admin. but go to your network settings and try to turn your sharing off if you can* if not you can move or delete the files you don't want viewed out of those folders. on vista go to network via the windows tab* there you can toggle what you need, but as far as being signed in and out that just some an error don't freak if all else fails run ccleaner might be a viro

Might just be a bug.

Change your password and I also recommend you switch networks.

Someone could have done an ARP Poisoning attack.

I recommend you just enable a firewall on your router and also enable Windows Firewall, hopefully it can block all the ARP Requests and High Traffic hitting your connection.

Good luck.

you can do that but it takes software to do that if you have vista you can turn off all incoming except for the internet where no one on the same network can view what your seeing but then there is also hackers so you might turn on your windows protection center and run anti virus scan

Nahh, it happens to me all the time on AIM. when you last left, you might have just exited the program instead of logging off, so you went off but it says you're still logged in on their servers. just try logging back on later.
