Go to site www.2-spyware.com/remove-thinkpoint.html. Scroll down a little and they give manual instructions for removing this. It is a 3 part process and you have to do all three parts to remove.
Note: We could not bring up Task Manager. To get around this, we did step 3 before anything else. We then did a restart and brought up the computer in safe mode. This allowed us to bring up Task Manager and we could then do step 1 and step 2. We then did a search to make sure that the hotfix file was still gone.
Here are the steps but there is much more detail on each of these steps at the above referenced site.
Step 1: Stop the hotfix.exe process via Task Manager. Open Task Manager and select the
Processes tab. Select hotfix.exe and stop the process.
Step 2: Delete the registry file. We are running Vista and we did this from the Task Manager.
Bring up Task Manager and select "File" at the top. Then select the option
"New Task (run...)". When the Run window opens, type regedit. A two-paned window will
open. On the left pane, go all the way down to the following and delete the registry file
(the file to delete will appear in the right hand column):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon "Shell"
(Although I think ours did not have Windows NT, but just Windows). PLEASE BE
CAREFUL WITH WHAT YOU REMOVE HERE. READ THE CAUTIONS GIVEN BY
THE WEBSITE ABOVE. IF YOU REMOVE THE WRONG FILE, YOU MAY REMOVE
SOMETHING THAT WINDOWS NEEDS TO EVEN COME UP. That said, we found the
name hotfix on this registry file.
Step 3: Delete the file C:\\Documents and Settings\\User\\Application Data\\hotfix.exe.
Within Vista, we had to search for the file - there was no Documents and Settings.
To do this, open a "Documents" window. Perform any kind of search. This modifies
the window so that you can do an advanced search. Under Search Tools, select
"Search Options...". Under the "View" tab, there is a section for hidden files and
folders. Select "Show hidden files and folders". Once this is done, then you can
search for the hotfix file. Make sure that you use the "Search Everywhere" option. Make
sure to empty the recycle bin.
This should remove thinkpoint.
Just an aside.... we also performed several scans and were told that there were no viruses.
Hope this helps!
