Download these two free programs: Malwarebytes and CCleaner. you can get them both from Filehippo.com.

http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Once you download these, restart your computer and boot into safe mode. To do this, press F8 a bunch of times before your windows loading screen comes up. A black screen with a bunch of boot options will appear. Choose Safe Mode.

Once in safe mode, run Malwarebytes. It will find all malicious software and remove it. After that is complete open CCleaner and run the registry cleaner to remove the remaining bits of the malware. If you dont clean the registry keys of the virus it could just put itself back on your comp.

After you run those two programs you should be virus, spyware, and adware free.

I also suggest getting an antivirus program. AVG is a decent free antivirus program that you can also get from filehippo.

Arou42 made a good point that i forgot to mention. Before your restart your computer to boot into safe mode, you should turn off system restore. Some malware has the ability to use this to put themselves back on your comp if they are "removed". Be sure to turn it back on though after cleaning your computer and restarting.

Good luck

Now press the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete buttons on your computer at the same time. Do this by first pressing the Ctrl key, and holding it down, then the Alt key, and holding it down, and then finally press the the Delete key. So you should have Alt and Ctrl held down at the same time before pressing the Delete button on your keyboard.

# The Windows Task Manager should now come up on your screen.Click on the Processes tab.# Make sure there is a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Show processes from all users and then look through the list of running processes. When you find the process named ''Desktop Defender 2010.exe''

, click once on it to select. Then click on the End Process button to terminate it.

# An alert will be displayed asking if you are sure you want to terminate this process. Please click on the Yes button.

Use combofix from bleepingcomputer.com, then go download malwarebytes from softpedia.com or cnet.com and use it(rename the installer if it doesn't let you install it such as winlogon.exe), then clean the rest of the virus with superantispyware and Hitman Pro 3.5 from softpedia.com/cnet.com and just in case you do have a rootkit on your system use GMER from majorgeek.com(Use gmer to scan and anything in red delete.)

This happened to me this morning believe it or not. After about an hour and freaking out and almost crying my friend sent me to this site http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-desktop-defender-2010 the instructions worked like a charm and got my computer working to normal. You have to download Malwarebytes' Anti Malware software. It scans your computer then gets any virus.Do a quick scan first. Then after most of the virus is taken off do a full scan. Just to be sure

(If you have Win XP, turn System Restore off. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab.

Click to select the Turn off System Restore check box. Or, click to select the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box. Click OK.

Click Yes to confirm that you want to turn off System Restore.)

Download, install, update and run full scans, in SAFE MODE*, with these programs...

http://www.malwarebytes.org

http://www.superantispyware.com

http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=Ad+Aware+Free+Anti+Malware&tag=404&searchtype=downloads Ad-Aware free

*** Important, when downloaded/updated disconnect from the internet ***

Then re-start.

(turn System Restore on. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab.

Click to clear the Turn off System Restore check box. Or, click the Turn on System Restore on all drives check box.

If you can't run a scan, go into the scanner's folder and re-name the .exe file to something like 'MyFile.exe' and try in safe mode again. Some malware prevent the execution of anti spy/mal/virus scans by blocking them by name.

You should consider getting a good Anti-Virus program.

Try one of these free ones...

***Never use more than one anti-virus program at any one time***

*Note: On start up (before Windows loads) keep tapping either F5 or F8 (be aware that some manufacturers use F8 for system recovery!) then use arrow keys to highlight 'Safe Mode with networking' and hit Enter/Return, click on a user account, enter the password (if you don't know it, there probably isn't one so leave it blank) and hit Enter/Return.
