First or all, you need to get your computer some powerful protection. Some very good, free anti-viruses available to download are:

1) AVG 8 AntiVirus. Easiest interface to use, very fast scanning and doesn't lag your computer at all. Only has a 76% detection rate, but catches the most harmful of viruses. If you're a normal home user, you're not in too much danger of higher level viruses and this is the AV for you:

2) Avast! 4 AntiVirus. Smaller, sleeker skin, average scanning speed, but reports alot of safe files as viruses, so you might need to watch out for that. 78% detection rate, but alot more complicated than most other free AVs. Use this if you are handy with a computer and you know what needs to be scanned:

3) Avira AntiVirus. Simple layout, which even the most basic of users can navigate. Incredibly fast scanning, with a 90% detection rate. Not as easy on the eyes as other AVs, and you need to know what you're doing to get the more advanced features, but it is definite a candidate:

Personally I use AVG, but only because I go for the easier interface. If you are paranoid about viruses then the only real option is Avira. But if you just want normal protection, then any of the three will do it for you.

For any spyware problems, get SpyBot - Search and Destroy:

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

And for protecting your computer for malware or tracking cookies, use Ad-Aware 2008 Free Edition:

http://lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

All of them are free, as powerful as paid programs, like McAfee and Norton (which only has an 18% detection rate!), and don't use up as many resources.

Just boot into Safe Mode (Press F8 when turning on the computer) and run full scans.

Hope that helps.

Antivirus 2009 is an unwanted program, from the authors of Antivirus 2008 . These applications have resembling interface and "features". After stealth installation, Antivirus 2009 will show tonns of fake spyware\adware detection messages and offers to remove reported threats (after you purchase commercial version). But in real Antivirus 2009 is not a spyware cleaner, it's just an imitation of spyware remover. Antivirus 2009 can also slow your computer and cause system errors and crashes. Remove Antivirus 2009 using manual removal instructions (for advanced users) or removal tool.

How to remove Fake Software, Toolbars, Trojans and Viruses:

Download, install, update and scan your computer with both SuperantiSpyware and Malwarebytes, delete what ever they find, if this fails to completely remove the virus/spyware download then update Avast and run a boot scan (click schedule boot-time scan and restart your PC), all the software below is free and safe to use.

SuperantiSpyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/

Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Avast Anti-Virus: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

To protect your PC in the future you need to use anti-virus software and a firewall, id recommend using Avast and Comodo Pro firewall both are very effective and completely free, you should also switch to Firefox 3 if you are browsing with IE as its much safer. (links on my profile)

For more information and removal instructions go here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/uninstall/12912/Antivirus-Pro-2009.html

After following these instructions I'd install http://ccleaner.com and run the Cleaner scan and remove everything it finds and also run the Registry scan and fix all that finds. Repeat the Registry one until nothing is detected.

After you have done this I'd switch off System Restore, reboot and the switch it back on and create a clean restore point and then reboot again.

Feel free to email me if you need any help.

Don't feel lonesome, hundreds of thousands of Internet Explorer users are getting this virus (masked as a 'Security' tool). It is prevalent on the 'My Space' site.

It is an especially nasty one, and must be removed with one (of several) specialized utilities.

I've not tried them all, but I have prescribed 'Malwarebytes' & it worked.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

The reason people get it is they allow "3rd Party Cookies" and 'Active 'X', which in this case displays some type of icon, or pop-up warning, which in reality is a 'Click-jacking' whereby the real action you perform is hidden behind the visible display; so when you tick anything, the malware installs itself.

Unlike typical pop-up advertising (stopped with available blockers) 3rd party cookies are entirely different critters.

Turn off "3rd Party Cookies", and always leave them off.

INTERNET EXPLORER: Tools> Internet Options> Privacy> Advanced: here check 'Override automatic....'; 'Allow session cookies'; 'Allow 1st party cookies'; & 'Block 3rd Party Cookies'.

FIREFOX: Tools> Options> Privacy: here UN-CHECK 'Accept 3rd Party cookies'

OPERA, et al: not sure, check under 'options' for this.

Because architecture of the Internet (notably 'Flash' scripting), vulnerabilities are readily exploited in Internet Explorer, & it is now urgent that you use

Firefox with current 'NoScript' add-on, which will prevent "Click-jacking'.
