DLL....Dynamic Link Library.

http://www.helpwithpcs.com/jargon/dll.htm

In short....they tend to not be viruses in themselves, but they can get infected or even BE infected before you get them. This does not mean to say that all DLL files are viruses. So don't go deleting all the dll files on your computer.

MUI....

The MUI file type is primarily associated with 'Amiga' by SASG. MUI = Magic User Interface. MUI is an object oriented system to create and maintain graphical user interfaces (Windows being one big example of a graphical user interface).

Any file has the potential to be infected with a virus, although there are countless files designed to be just plain ol' viruses through and through. Most of them are malware, but there are some more prevalent nasties out in cyberspace!

At this point it appears to be that all files with .mui extension are certainly infected if you are facing boot loops after getting the popup saying"your system restarted/rebooted unexpectedly, startup will continue after re-starting the computer or words to that sffect" only it does not. And I re-iterate: "all .mui files specially those that are like: xyzfile.exe.mui are now infected in this event.

For those people who have a running OS but are facing a boot loop trying to install a new OS , no well known Virus /malware cleaner seems to be up to cleaning this yet and microsoft does not seem to be even oficially aware of this and technet users and admins are as clueless with half the community claiming .mui is a official file extension and the others claiming it to be a virus. At this point the situiation is tanking so quick that it might be worth the whilw infecting your computer with some other more controllable virus detectable by your homely virus cleaners. In another words if you have problems and see a link to an unknown, suspicious looking "Virus solution", go for it. Anything is better than this convoluted, malignant (and very damaging) virus. The world is waiting for it to snowball into a major issue. Guess it must be bad days for anti-virus solution providers. Heard symantec has split from Veritas...

"MUI" stands for "Multilingual User Interface" and ".dll.mui" files are simply libraries(Dlls) that contain resources dedicated to localization : for an application to support multiple languages, dlls containing specific resources must be available eg language resources(arabic,french,english,chinese...),in general text format ,

so the risk that these files can bring a virus is less or equal to text or image files(really small)
