If you only have one OS installed, in the case of Linux Mint, the GRUB menu does not load by default. So after the POST, when your computer is booting up, hold the shift button down until GRUB loads up. From there follow the procedure from this page: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-reset-forgotten-root-password/

If I understand you wisely the gadget isn't recognising your mouse, no matter if the mouse became acknowledged in Ubuntu and contained in the stay CD. it should be that in case you only overwrote the Ubuntu with Mint, without formatting, there are settings left out of your previous deploy that are conflicting. Are you utilising a operating laptop or computer? if so see if the gadget works with an exterior mouse. the subjects should be you want to position in added drivers. to respond to your questions right here the least complicated determination. put in the stay CD, and check out a reinstall of Ubuntu or of Mint, this time allowing restricted drivers, and formatting the objective partition, (BACKUP first)

if you have dual boot, boot into the different operating system.

mount the root filesystem of your operating system and remove the password from the

/etc/shadow file.

you can google it up on how to remove the password.
