Question:
System Alert?????
2007-03-11 10:39:06 UTC
Every time I turn my computer on I keep getting a icon on my system tray called System Alert it tells me that I have some active spyware on my computer and to fix the problem I should click on the balloon. When I click on it, it takes me to a website to buy and download a software called 'Spydawn'.

I have Norton Internet Security 2007, and Adaware on my computer, so why am I having this problem?

Also when I go onto my internet I get a pop up Internet Explorer msg saying 'W32. MyZor.rk@yf is a virus that infects files with exe extensions. It attempts to steal passwords and other private information from the infected computer. To fix this please click ok. Again when I click ok it takes me to a website to download a software called 'Malware Wiped'.

Also after every 30 mins Im getting another alert on my system tray which says 'Malware threats: my computer is infected with a back door Trojan'.

Somebody please help me sort this problem out!

Thanks 2 all answers in advance!

Your computer has been hijacked by SpyDawn. this is a very dangerus hijacker now-a-days and can damage your computer.

If your computer has been infected with SpyDawn and hijacked by the http://spydawn.com/ then your computer is in a real danger because it does transfer back and forth information from the infected computer which makes it a potential for data theft.

SpyDawn Symptoms:-

User's homepage is changed to pestcapture.com or iesafetywarning.net or to other unfamiliar websites.

Warning messages such as "Virus Alert", "Your Computer is Infected", "Security Alert" Trojan-Spy.win32@mx or Spyware.Cyberlog-X infections are displayed.

Automatic download and installation of a rogue antispyware product. Presence of blinking icons next to computer clock. The icons can generate balloon messages claiming infection. The icons usually looks like a circle with a (?) or a 'danger' triangle with an exclamation mark inside.

I got all the information about this spyware from the below link and there you can also remove it by using the manual and automatic process,

I am but a bit more than thirty mins into your posting and amazed at the quality and quantity of answers. In reviewing the posted, prior to this, aside from the operating in safe mode (F8) I have a different solution which may help on a more perm. basis.

Go to CNET.com for free downloads of Anti-Spyware, Malware, Virus, etc. Do not deactivate system restore unless you are prepared to reinstall your operating system.

Disable Norton if you can. Download CCleaner, AVG, AntiVir, Adaware, and SpyBot. These are all free.

Run the CCleaner first. You will have to sign in again with Yahoo, however, it eliminates all files and history which might have cause your problem. AVG would be next. It will take half an hour. Follow that with AntiVir. It picks-up what AVG can not correct. This again is a half hour in running. Follow with the Adaware and Spybot programs. Go to Yahoo and look for the toolbar which has both pop-blocker and the norton anti-spyware and install it.

Since this is Daylight savings day make a note of the date. Once run these programs will clean your system of your problems and you will use this as your "new" restore to date.

This is going to take between two to three hours to go through, however, it beats the heck out of reprogram. I've had to do it due to virus introduced by my companion. If it works email me at gjgjobs.com. Good luck.

P.S. When asked by programs Delete not Quarnteen.

It's not a virus, it's malware designed to frighten you into buying their software.

Turn off System Restore to prevent it coming back from a file hidden there, then boot into Safe Mode (repeatedly tap F8 while rebooting) and run your Adaware in that mode. That should do it.

Reboot normally & don't forget to turn Restore on again. You might also like to download Spybot S&D (for free), that's pretty good at catching out spyware.

PS DON'T run two anti-virus products at the same time, they'll fight. You can run as many anti-malware progs as you like.

Welcome to my world. I had the same problem very recently with spydawn (bastards). I think this is a link that has attached itself to your tool bar. If you click on the alert it just takes you to their home page, you will probably find the e-mails you send them just get returned also. To get rid of this problem took me about 2 weeks, and am still not sure it was my doing that removed it, or whether in was on a timer and removed itself.

But this is what i did:

Go to a site called file hippo

Down load a spy ware program called `Ad-ware' don't worry this is free.

Just keep running the program searching for Trojans etc. About twice a day. This program is so much better than Norton which i have also.

After about two weeks of checking with the spy-ware on both programs Ad-ware picked up, quarantined and deleted a Trojan. After this it was gone.

Hope this has helped.

It is a apyware itself

Spyware is a general term used to describe software that performs certain behaviors such as (popup)advertising, collecting personal information, slow your computer down,or changing the configuration of your computer, generally without appropriately obtaining your consent first. The best way to get rid of spywares and adwares is using a best anti-spyware to protect your computer.Of course there are many solutions exist, all of them with their own strengths and weaknesses. So which anti-spyware is the most suited for your system? You can find out by reading in-depth reviews and comparisons of TOP 5 anti-spywares... some really great tips and links to Spyware removal programs.Make sure you have 1 or 2 antispyware on your pc.

First I would download ,Kaspersky antivirus, you get a free trial and the antivirus is the best on the market, plus it is easy to use. Then I would run a full scan, Kaspersky will take care of the rest. You could also try spybot search and destroy, very good for cleaning up malware, etc. Hope this helps!

I had this exact same thing last year. You have picked up some naughty software from somewhere. I would go to micosoft.com/security and download and run their system checker. To be honest I ended up stripping and reloading my PC. The people who do these things are scum. They are trying to get money out of you for some cr**py cheap silly program they can't sell by fair means. Good luck!

Colin M is right windows never will send you messages like that and going into safe mode to do your scans is the best way to remove it. But if that dosent work Norton has free removal tools on their website for hard to remove viruses and spyware.

To fix this problem, please go to this site, run a thing called the highjack scan, it is not a virus, it scans your computer, very quickly, you then need to post the results on the cyber tech forum, someone will go over the results and see if you are infected and give with more instructions on how to resolve this issue. They helped me out a while back.
