I heard that if you have an anti-virus program up and running you don't need to turn on windows fire wall because it will interfere with the anti virus software? I run Avast Anti-Virus, so should I leave windows firewall on or off while running Avast?

I would turn it off. My anti-virus software automatically disabled mine. However, I would be cautious about turning it off if your anti-virus software doesn't come with firewall software included. Anyway, I think you will be fine without it. Windows firewall is just mediocre at best and provides minimal protection.

Unless your anti-virus software includes a firewall, then no do not turn off Windows Firewall. Some software, often called "Suite" incorporates into it's program the addition of a firewall, anti-spyware and anti-virus programs. Some, but not all, anti-virus software do contain a firewall, whereupon, the program shuts down Windows Firewall, so that the default firewall is the one included in the installed anti-virus program that includes it's own firewall.

No, you don't need to turn the firewall off if the anti-virus program is running.. If your program does have a built-in firewall, be sure to turn the Windows firewall 'off'. It's not good to have 2 running at the same time.

An internet security program covers anti-virus, spyware, etc.etc. AND has a built-in firewall. The firewalls in these programs are far superior to that of the Windows firewall, although ANY firewall is better than none.

If your antivirus does not include a firewall component (one with is generally called a security suite), then you may as well use the Windows firewall, more so if you are not behind a router NAT (which serves as a pure incoming firewall).

One of the other firewalls would generally provide more detailed control than the Windows one, or you could use the free version of Windows Firewall control to overcome the incredibly poor configuration of Windows firewall.

Windows Firewall is good enough to keep you safe. Also, using a router which has a Built-in Hardware Firewall is even a better layer of Protection. I'm not a fan of Avast AV, there ratings are Dropping Among AV Companies. Here are my choices:

Microsoft Security Essentials

Malwarebytes

AShampoo Malware

An antivirus software doesn't interfere with windows firewall, you should turn it on if you use only antivirus software.

An internet security software will interfere with windows firewall because it has a firewall by itself, so if you are using an internet security suite, you should turn windows firewall off.

It depends on if your Av already has a firewall and if not, turn and leave on windows own firewall. Most AV Suits have their own firewall and usually turn the windows firewall off, because it is not needed now.

Hi there,

I dont think Avast AV has a firewall so you will need to leave windows firewall on.

All you opt for is one firewall and one antivirus. something greater advantageous than which will reason greater issues interior of your gadget which defeats the purpose of the protective utility. p.c.. considered one of each and every and persist with em. Standalone AV's do no longer intervene as long as they are all no longer working at as quickly as. My computing device is secure with: NOD32 (antivirus) (used to apply Avira Antivir) domicile windows Defender (firewall) large-Anti-undercover agent ware (standalone undercover agent ware remover) MalwareBytes-AntiMalware (standalone malware remover)

For best security antivirus is for finding malicious codes on your computer and firewall keeps websites from stealing information so yas they both need to be on if you are connected to the Internet
