About two days ago i got a virus on my computer, i have very good software against virus but it still managed to get into my system. Its completly taken over it, and i cannot use any thing at all on there.

When i try and use a programme such a virus scan a message will come up saying a virus has taken over it and cannot be used.

I have tried to system restore, however it will only go back to today date. And i cannot find my Windows XP CD to wipe the whole system, but would rather not use this option anyway.

If anyone knows how to fix this, please get back to me urgently!

You can run antivirus and antispyware programs, but the sad fact is if you have found one virus on your computer, you probably have several. Cleaning the computer now requires you to follow these steps, because modern viruses and spyware entrench themselves in files that your computer needs in order to run:

1. Virus-check your data files (not application files-- you have installer CDs for those).

2. Back up the data files, getting them off your hard drive.

3. Get your original operating system CDs that came with your computer.

4. Boot your computer from the operating system CD.

5. Select the option that erases your hard drive and then reinstall your system software.

6. Turn on your software firewall that came with your operating system.

7. Reconnect to the internet, and download *all* Windows updates, no matter how long it takes.

8. Reinstall your application software, and update the applications as much as you can.

9. Reinstall your data files.

10. Create a limited user account on your system that does *not* have administrator access, and web surf only from this account.

Yes, this is a pain in the butt. No, there is no other way. No, antivirus and antispyware programs cannot fix this problem on its own.

So, what do you do in the future?

1. Never click on links you find in an e-mail.

2. Never open an e-mail attachment, ever.

3. Only download files from a reputable website that you know is on the up-and-up.

4. Never use bit-torrent and other file-sharing programs.

5. Never use an unsolicited drive-checking site.

6. Turn off all java and java scripting by default, and only enable java and java scripting for sites that you know you can trust.

7. Never read an unsolicited e-mail, and delete spam immediately. It is possible to be hacked by reading an e-mail alone.

Please adhere to the 'dont's' I provided above, because you will have to repeat the cleaning steps that I listed first *every time you get infected.* Anti-spyware and anti-virus programs are good to have, but they are a second line of defense. The best way to protect your system is you, and changing your behavior.

Good luck!

to be for real, best thing to do right now is go to temporary files and delete everything, if it says access denied that's where the virus is. Deleting temp. files do not harm your pc. Also check in Windows defender and go to history, it will tell you THREAT or suspisouis files, this will show you what you need to delete. Next option is dont USE MCAFEE IT TURNS AGAINST YOU. This is ecause most hackers know how to work mcafee since it's been around.Dont not use norton either, norton really turns against you. My computer wasnt never hooked up to the internet before and i got a virus, windows defender said it came from norton. Deleted norton and everything was fine. Next option when critical, take it to geek squad at best buy. GOOD LUCK

Well there is a possible way of removing virus without using antivirus program………

>>Switch the Command Prompt to the drive infected with the virus by inputting it (the drive letter followed by a colon). Type in "attrib -s -h *.* /s /d" and press "Enter" once the prompt is reading the correct drive.

>>Bring up the drive's content directory by inputting the "dir" command. Look for any .exe files that are suspicious. Anything accompanied by a .inf or .dll file is a big red flag.

>>Rename the files that activate the virus--the ones that are attached to the .exe file. Type in "Rename" followed by the full file name followed by any harmless name you create. You can now access the drive without activating the virus.

>>Go to the drive folder where all the virus files are located. They are usually within the "Program Files" folder. Delete every one of them and clear out your recycling bin.

>>Open the registry editor by inputting "regedit" in the Run window. Search for the virus' registry keys, which are often within the folders with "HKEY" in the name. Delete all the registry keys associated with the virus.

>>Reboot the system once all the virus files and keys are removed.

One of the things you can try is putting your computer in "safe mode", to do this, when the computer starts to boot, hit the F8 key repeatedly. This should bring up a menu, choose "Start Windows in safe mode", you will have to use the arrow keys and highlight it then press enter, your mouse won't work.

It may ask you to log in, if it does, you can log in as yourself or Administrator. When you get to the desktop in safe mode, it may look a bit odd, don't worry about that.

Try running your anti-virus program there, sometimes that will get rid of the virus.

Listen carefully :

1. Shut down your PC (pull off the power cable) and then turn it on again;

That's how you'll enter boot modes.

2. Choose "safe mode";

*** Remember that you need to have enabled "show hidden files and folders" in "Folder & Search Options / Organize / View " checked; ***

3. When finish booting, immediately go to C:\Users\You\App_Data\Roaming and browse for strange exe file there(below the folders). It's your virus base. Delete it immediately and then restart your PC normally. Scan it. Done.
