Long Version:
I am trying to find a way to set up an office chat system for a small office using Windows Messenger or Windows Live Messenger. However, the owner wants to make it so that only specified contacts can communicate to and from the office computers.
I don't believe I can use a LAN chat service in the instance because the contacts list would include users outside the local network for remote computing purposes.
Essentially I am looking for some kind of add-on that would "grey out" the settings so that they could only be changed by inserting an additional password. That way the only the Admin would be able to add to or change the Allow/Block communication list as well as other settings, including the auto sign in and security settings. It would seem that the only thing that would need to be greyed out is the options menu selection in the tools drop down menu.
Again the reason I chose windows messenger or windows live messenger is because of the built in remote connection capability. That would allow the tech to fix problems in the office when he is not there. I am aware of services like logmein.com and others. However, for security reasons the office wants to make sure that access is on a request basis. In other words the techs can only connect if the employee on the computer accepts the connection.
Thanks for reading and I hope someone out there has a solution that would address all of the above. The key to the solution is it be free. If it is not free then it's not a solution(If the program has a 1 time reasonable fee it might be okay as long as it addresses ALL of the above concerns)
