Question:
What do you think of windows defender?

Windows defender comes pre-installed on every new windows computer, and my new vista also came with a free 90 day subscription to norton anti virus. When my computer became infected with a virus, windows defender automatically started up and attempted to get rid of the virus. Norton detected that windows defender was dealing witht the problem and asked if it should do anything or not. I chose to let windows defender do its thing. Windows defender finally said it had gotten rid of all "security risks" and said my computer was running normally. I decided to scan my computer with norton, and it found 2 more viruses on my computer that windows hadn't gotten rid of.

My question to you is, what do you think of windows defender? Do you think I should pay for norton? Or should I just go with defender? I can keep the norton security scanner for free, but should I trust windows defender to get rid of all the security risks?

Defender is an anti-spyware only. It does not detect viruses.

Norton is an anti-virus. It detects viruses.

You need BOTH anti-spyware and anti-virus.

Good luck.

Windows Defender = Anti-Spyware

Norton Antivirus = Anti-Virus

They have different functions, and you need both, because Anti-Spyware applications do not detect nor remove virus.
