How can I prevent remote access to my computer?

I am positive that someone has gained remote access to my computer without my permission. No one else has physical access to it. At one time, I found a setting that was set to "allow remote access"... I've searched this time and can't seem to find where that was / is. Please help so that I can stop this access. I have Norton 360, but I haven't seen any warnings, etc.

I want to know how to permanently prevent this person or people from regaining access. This is very important... please advise.

there r a couple of places to go rt clik my computer>properties>remote tab until both entries then apply ok

start>run> type services.msc

disable these by rt clicking then under startup type changing it to diasable then apply u can press stop if u want them stopped now otherwise the disabling will take effect upon reboot

remote desktop help session manager

remote access auto connection manager

remote registry

routing and remote access

while u r there disable secondary logon ...big security risk

1) Right click my computer

2) Select Manage

3) Select Services

4) Right Click "Remote Access Connection Manager" and stop the service. Set it to "Disabled"

5) Right click the "Remote Registry" service and stop this as well. Set it to "Disabled"

If you leave the Remote Registry service on, Remote Access can be re-enabled by changing the registry entry.

Depending on what they've done to the machine, you may have a remote control trojan installed or a "root kit".

Start at the top of this list. Install the products one at a time and then install all of their updates. Have each one complete a full scan before proceeding to the next one. One of these *should* fix your problem.

depends on what system you have, if you have vista, go into system then remote access then uncheck remote access. I can't remember exactly, but if you have xp try services, and turn off remote access.

If you have XP Pro (not available in Home edition) go to Security Settings and turn it off there. It will turn the service. (or in that case, go to Services and disable). That'll prevent connections to your machine.

The surest way is to not use a wireless router. If you must, make sure you have a strong password also called and encryption key. (Linksys's key is 22 characters - upper case lower case numbers and letters. It is impossible for someone to guess.) -MM

click Start -->right click 'my computer' --> click Properties-->click Remote --> un-tick the boxes next to 'allow remote assistance' and 'allow remote desktop'.

get rid of Norton.

Best.
